Paddywax Library Collection Leo Tolstoy Scented Soy Wax Candle, 6.5-Ounce, Black Plum, Persimmon & Oakmoss

The paddywax library collection are some of the best smelling candles I have ever come across. They are not too flowery or sweet, they are deep and complex. The Leo Tolstoy candle is my absolute favorite in the whole collection. If you are worried about not liking the smell buy one of the smaller travel tins first, they are wonderful and last longer than you might think.

The marketing here is obviously genius to English major types like myself, but the candle is lovely, too! Burns cleanly, smells luscious (like a Russian winter night), and lasts quite a long time. (I also have the Jane Austen candle and love it, too)

The candles are really great, but I ordered the slightly more expensive version of the same item in order to get the collectible "lift-off top" box pictured in the product image. This is not what I received. I bought one of each variety so my daughter coukd keep the boxes on her display shelf long after the candles were used. We were both disappointed. If packaging isnt an issue-you should definitely purchase! The candles scents are absolutely divine!

I have bought about a dozen of these Paddywax Library candles. Each time I have received them, they have been packaged extremely well. None have ever arrived broken. I often give the Charles Dickens one as gifts at Christmas but selfishly love it for my own house. The Leo Tolstoy is my favorite amongst them all and has the best throw and staying power. Do not buy the rectangular tin versions, as they tunnel so badly that you’re wasting well over half the wax. The standard ones do decently well, but still tunnel - though not as severely. (You can fix this by making a narrowed chimney for it out of foil. Light it, wrap the outside top of the candle with the foil, but make it into a conical shape with a quarter or so sized opening at the top. Let the candle burn until the wax at the sides has all melted to be even with the rest of it.)

This scent is a bit musky, a bit fruity and a bit floral - I haven’t found anything similar to it! I do wish the price wasn’t as high though. That’s the only thing that prevents me from buying more of these so frequently.

Great idea for candles! I love Paddywax in general, and this made a nice gift for a friend who hosts our book clubs! I haven't smelled it yet, but love the idea. I went with Tolstoy because I liked the scents, in theory, of this candle as well as his quote. I will go with a woman author next time, like Emily Bronte, etc.

enjoy these lovely candles always. Except for the Shakespeare ones -- the quote is not from Shakespeare! I can’t believe they continue to produce these!

I agree with the reviewer who said that this is the fragrance of the Russian night -- subtle and unique. However, the scent from my candle disappeared once it had burned down halfway. Very disappointing -- I won't be buying from Paddywax again.
