From a scientist
First off, I am a retired scientist owning several microscopes. I bought this for myself (blush) as it looked interesting and comes with rocks. I was also influenced by the fact that it is battery operated and easily portable. It is sold as a toy for children, however it is perfect for taking out in the field. It is small, sturdy and seems to have excellent optics (a big surprise!) for an inexpensive microscope. I added a reflector in the well below the stage, giving me illumination from below as well as from above (at the same time, but useful for transparent specimens). I merely cannibalized an old incandescent flashlight which gave me a reflector as well as a transparent stage for lighting from below. For my purposes, this microscope, this little (TOY!) microscope, is a terrific buy and can't be beat! Children will love it. I do, and I am at 84 years old, still a child at heart. The only thing I miss is a fine focus control, but for the price this is a minor criticism. Another plus I have to mention: the eyepieces are standard size, which means you can useother eyepieces or a Barlow lens for greater magnification. Also, you can add to one side a dedicated microscope camera or even a single lens reflex camera with the proper adapter, but the latter, I guess, is overkill.

perfect for kids!
ok....the grown-ups like it, too. This was a Xmas gift for our 7yo grandson and he's glued to it. He has to examine everything, even typical yucky boy stuff. It keeps him occupied for hours and he's learning stuff w/o even knowing it.

Not for children under 8
I bought this for my 6 yo budding scientist. It took me a bit to get it to focus. I’m sure it’s an excellent product for and older child.

A real microscope that's easy to use!
I love that this is a real microscope! It’s ready to use right out of the box but you’ll need to have 2AA batteries on hand. It comes with 10x and 20x eyepieces and is perfect for seeing objects with both eyes at once. You can see fine detail on 3D objects and my kids thought that was really cool. We loved the rock collection that came included with the GeoSafari Stereoscope. It includes obsidian, granite, limestone, and marble, just to name a few of the 12 rock samples. Also, includes a guide listing details about each rock sample and is perfect for learning about the 3 main types of rocks, ingenious, metamorphic, and sedimentary. Booth my 7 year old and 12 year old have enjoyed exploring a variety of objects with this microscope. I think it's a great tool to have on hand for homeschooling or anytime you just want to have some fun with science! Would definitely recommend it!

Not sure what happened
The microscope had some scratches and the rocks were all out of place. Also, while the manual said that I should install batteries, they were already in the microscope. Functionally, the instrument seems fine. I don't see any scratches on the lenses and it works just like a stereomicroscope should. I had debated between this model and the natgeo one and was turned off of the natgeo scope because it was made of plastic. I'm sad that this one is beat up but plan to use it anyway.

Buyer beware on Used purchases!
Note although this item was purchased as Used-like new, it came loose in box. with no padding. Even though it rattle ominously, it appears to be okay. 30 seconds and a bit of paper would have secured it.

this is what the world really looks like
I use this for everything from taking out a sliver to seeing if mites are on my orchids. You can gross out your kids or your wife too with almost anything on your cuticle. Enjoy.

returned for full refund, poor quality,
for a hundred bucks, I was expecting a semi quality instrument, lenses loose in barrels, cheap plastic construction, could not focus properly, appears this unit already returned once, SOY amazon, returned for refund, trying to appear like quality instrument but junk

The optics are really very good.
Great for looking at rocks, insects, bits of plant etc. as you would expect. My 11y daughter was super chuffed with this and has used it continually since she got it. The adjustable binoculars make viewing easy and comfortable for all the different sizes that we are. Excellent overall quality. Very happy.

Comunque gioco valido e istruttivo.
