They aren't always protective enough. Some dishes are hotter than I can comfortably lift with these. Also, there is a whole to hang them by that I frequently pick up by touching and actually touch the hot pan.

First I LOVE the color of this trivet! This simple silicone circle has so much potential for so many things. It's a little bigger than my opened hand and it's just the right thickness. So it's easy to bend and use to open a jar..and it opened the jar in seconds. It's also really pretty, with it's detailed raised pattern on top, to place on your table to set a hot dish on. I know it says you could use it as a spoon rest but I personally would not do that unless you had it upside down so the flat side was up simply because the raised pattern has little crevices and I myself am not interested in cleaning any drippings from in there. This also has a small hole on one side that can be used for hanging storage. I'd totally buy this again if I could find it in another equally as awesome color.
