Praxis II English Language Arts: Content and Analysis (5039) Study Guide: Praxis II (5039) Test Prep and Practice Questions

I took the Praxis 5039 a month ago for high school ELA certification. This book covered a lot, but alone would definitely not have prepared me for the test. The best thing I found that prepared me was to buy the practice test through ETS. I also set up a trial with study.com and split it with a friend, which provides all the information about ELA you’d ever want to know. I do believe this book helped some, but there weren’t many questions in the practice tests in the back of the book that asked about novels/authors (and there were a few of these types of questions on the test). Many of the practice questions in this book are also worded or organized very differently than the actual test. I do believe I passed with the help of all three resources though, so if there isn’t a more accurate book, this one wasn’t too bad.

This book was great. It was really comprehensive of the types of questions that would be on the test. I was so nervous about passing as I was not an English major, but using this and then the practice test provided through the Praxis registration, I passed on the first try. I also found some useful Quizlet study guides by searching Praxis 5039. You can do it!

I passed the test comfortably and this book was helpful to me. The study material in the front section was well organized and it was helpful for a good overview of the material. The two sample tests in the back were also helpful. They were a solid check on my level of knowledge of the subject and what areas I need to study more.I gave it 4 stars instead of five because there are a couple of free and cheaper resources out there that were equally as helpful and maybe even a bit more helpful. Things like the free sample questions from ets (the company that puts out the test), the sample test that is available to buy from ets for a bit cheaper than this book, free online sites like study.com (which a teacher at your college has to assign for you to be able to access), quizlet.com (which is available to everyone), were all highly helpful.However, I found that this book was a integral part of my study regimen that prepared me to pass the test, so I recommend it.

I bought this ebook in a panic today after realizing I've been studying from this company's book for the 5038 exam instead of the 5039 exam. Below are my major complaints:1) The ebook formatting is awful. There are no chapter markings or section dividers; it's simply pages upon pages of text that you have to navigate on your own.2) Honestly, the test questions can be super weird. I haven't taken an official practice test yet so I don't have much to compare it to, but one in particular question was "What is the best way to assess written, spoken, and (forgot the third thing) assignment?" and the answer was "Design an assessment appropriate for the written, spoken, and (third thing) assignment." I'm not kidding.3) After realizing today that I had purchased the 5038 book with about 5 days before my scheduled test, I panicked and purchased this ebook for 5039. They are the EXACT SAME BOOK, except the 5039 has two free response questions tacked onto the end of the practice test and this book is $35 while the 5038 ebook is $10. Those are literally the only differences.I really don't trust what I've been studying anymore, and my test is in 5 days. Here's hoping it didn't screw me over too terribly, but I'd shop around for a different company's book to study from.

I used this book to prepare for the Praxis 5039 ELA Secondary Education exam. I have a bachelor’s degree in History and have always been a lover of literature, but I have no professional background in education or curriculum whatsoever. My goal is to become an English teacher, so I had to pass this exam as the next step in my certification. This book, along with its practice test, absolutely adequately prepared me to pass the exam. It was very informative about the content that would be on the exam, and it accurately explained the content. The practice test at the end of the book was also very helpful because it explains why the correct answer is correct as well as why the incorrect answers are not correct.I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a basic, comprehensive refresher on the content needed to pass the Praxis. I also would recommend completing one of the paid practice tests on the Praxis website to go even further in one’s test preparation.

I feel like these bad reviews are from people who read through it once and didnt pass. You need to STUDY it. This test isn't easy, and this book is very similar to the real,thing in my opinion.Failed the first time and passed after buying and studying this book.Worth every penny for me

This book is going to save me! I was trying to study using the free online resources (Quizlet, etc.), but I wasn't getting the comprehensive picture I need for this test. Now, I'm reviewing the most powerful teaching strategies and memorizing all the necessary terms. I'm not sure why the ratings on this book are so low.. so I wanted to be sure to let other worried testers know this book is great and far better than the free resources out there. (I'm testing May 14, 2017, so I'll try and remember to come back and update this review)

This study book was very helpful in helping me prepare for and pass the English 5039 Praxis. I have been out of college for 28 years and bought this book in January of 2018. I took the test and passed it on March 9, 2018. The book was a great overview of the material covered on the exam and taught me once again some valuable test taking skills. Well worth the money!
