Trip to India
For me, traveling to a new place is always a bit stressful since traveling is a big part of my job. Finding the "hot spots", fun and beautiful places is overwhelming but thanks to the author, I'm more excited about this trip than any other trip I've planned. I highly recommend this travel guide before taking a step into India.

A very limited view, not highlighting newer travel destinations for curious visitors.
The book was not worth buying; most of the information is freely available from the internet. A visitor would have greatly benefited if it had included a short history of cultural heritage highlighting related travel destinations more currently developed.

It's very slim and written with huge letters, with zero photos.
It's not really a book which I would suggest to others. It doesn't seem worth the money. Let's say that this guide is barely superficially helpful, and this doesn't justify it's purchase. From the very positive reviews on Amazon I was expecting a much better product. On a scale 1 to 10, I would say that its travel advice for people wanting to travel to India is probably 3. So, then, you must purchase another travel guide for the remaining 7 points missing. So just buy the other guide.

Great Read for those Who Love to Travel!
I really enjoyed this read. The background given on the culture, food, & historical sights gave great insight to anyone wanting to travel to India! Even for those who dont plan on making a trip would enjoy getting a better understanding of the country's traditions.

Terrible book.
This book was written by someone who sounded like a 14-year-old. The information was so basic and uninteresting that I couldn’t even believe that this book had ever been published. Additionally, there are 1 million typos.

Very few pictures and no color pictures.
Might be helpful when in India but less helpful for early decision of whether to go and where.

Useful and comprehensive
Essential India Travel Guide by Mohan Kapoor offers an unbiased inside view of India. This book does not provide details of every city in every state, but what it provides is an in-depth look at some of the most popular destinations in India. The book divides all the 29 states of India into four regions, then discusses the most popular cities in them to visit. The book also shares some fun facts like what to eat when you in each city, where to go, what to see, what to expect etc. The thing I like most about this book is the unbiased view the author paints which tells you to be aware of the pickpockets and how to be respectful to each of the six main religions, the food culture and so many of the colorful festivals India is known for. This book is a cultural travel guide that is enjoyable to read.
