Sin: Selected Poems of Forugh Farrokhzad

Forugh was an enlightened woman, a poet, open minded, creative and passionate. She emerged in the traditional Iranian society of the 1950s and her poems about love, lust and passion still resonate today.

I am a musician and composer and I needed translations of Forough Poetry to be able to introduce some of the work I had composed on her poetry to some non-Farsi speakers.The translations were helpful for giving an idea of what the lines were about, but there seems to be some poetical spirit lacking; meaning I could see that the emotional-existential layers were not fully communicated.

Translating poetry is almost always an impossible task. But not this time. This book offers a masterful translation of Forough Farrokhzad's life-altering poetry. The reader does get the true sense of the poems while reading her poetry in a language other than Forough's.
