Knife block
This is a beautiful and very sturdy knife block. I bought a set of the chef essential knifes and didn't care much for the round black holder that came with it, looks cheap. But this knife block is a fantastic replacement. Not only did it fit my knife set but also my other good knives. And I love that the slots are horizontal. For anyone looking for a wooden knife block,,, I strongly recommend this one. It even has slots for my knife sharpener and kitchen shears. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!!!! I highly recommend this product. You can't beat the price. THANKS!!!!

It looks great and it was waaaaay cheaper than the already finished ...
For the price, you can't beat it. Yes, it will need to be sanded and stained/urethaned if you feel it needs it. The holes go all the way through, so make sure your knives don't stick into your counters. I gave mine a light sanding, a light stain and several coats of tung oil. It looks great and it was waaaaay cheaper than the already finished models. And it has room for 8 steak knives instead of the usual 4 or 6.

This stand works, and it looks good.
I use this holder to hold kitchen knives on my counter. It works fine and it looks good. Will hold a variety of small knives, and it looks good.

Great knife block
Great knife block. My random knife assortment fit easily into this block. The grove sizes are generic enough to fit most knives. I stained mine a dark ebony with a gell stain. It worked great.

Great solid knife block!!
I received a knife set that my brother had used with magnets on the inside of his cabinets so I needed a knife block. This one reasonably priced so I ordered it. I went ahead and stained it to match my cabinets and it looks great. I did need to sand the openings ever so slightly but other than that great product

Would Buy It Again!
The knife block I received looks exactly like the picture. I appreciate the design because it is functional and keeps knives sharp by protecting the blade. It holds a good number of varied length and width blades. For the price, this is really a great buy!

Nice block if you put in some elbow grease to smooth it out.
I read many of the posts and knew that this would have a rough finish and I would have to do some sanding so I wasn't really surprised when I received it. However, not only is it rough but the cuts in the wood are very uneven as you can see in the pictures. Also there was a crack between 2 of the cuts, also in the picture. Not enough to warrant sending it back. I wound up having to use files to even out and smooth the cuts. The part I was really unhappy with is the hole for the steel isn't large enough. As you can see in the second picture my steel wouldn't fit more than an inch in the block. I had to enlarge the hole with a drill and bit which was kind of tricky since most bits won't reach the entire length of the block. Luckily I didn't crack anything. All of my knives fit nicely. I have 3 knives with wide blades which all fit and still left room for a cleaver. My steak knives fit in the bottom rack without running through the bottom but it is tight. All the handles touch each other. The finish is just too plain. I stained mine to match the décor of my kitchen and now it looks really nice.Recommendation: It is a nice block for the money if you don't mind putting a little elbow grease into smoothing the rough parts. If you have a steel and it is not pretty skinny you may wind up with the same problem I had.
