Often Imitated, Never Surpassed
This has been my "go to" nutritional reference since 1982. I had been ill and became anemic. My doctor prescribed an iron supplement which was to be taken three times a day because "the body absorbs iron slowly." Curious to find out if anything might help boost that process, I headed over to the bookstore and to my continual delight discovered Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible. The vitamin/nutritional information was so clear and concise that I started gifting copies of the book to family and friends because of its encyclopedic nutritional information. It provides an overview of our digestive system and the nutritional role of vitamins, minerals, and supplements including herbs and homeopathic medicines.The information for each entry gives details about what it is what it does in the body, its best natural source, various forms in which in may be supplemented, and, deficiency and toxicity warnings.In addition to vitamins/minerals/supplements there are chapters about common ailments, how to read labels, diets, drugs, and how to find a nutritionally oriented doctor.The end of each chapter has a section of frequently asked questions regarding the chapter's information.Personal anecdote: In the mid-90's I stopped into the Great Earth Vitamin store on Pico Blvd. in West Los Angeles to pick up some supplements. I was in a hurry and knew what I needed so when a guy in the store politely asked me if I needed any help I gave a quick "no thank you." The nice guy rang me out and put a couple of the free informational brochures in the bag. There was something about the person on the face of the brochure that made me take a second look at it in the car. That "nice guy" trying to help me out was Earl Mindell. I went back in the store, apologized for being a bit abrupt and told him how I had discovered the Vitamin Bible while living in Iowa in '82. He smiled at me and said, "Oh, you were the one who bought that copy. Thank you." Great guy.

Vitamin Bible
I love this book. It has hidden gems of knowledge. I have a hard copy (older paperback version paperback) that I found at a thrift store & wanted a digital copy to use for searching for key words that I can highlight.When I looked at the sample, the table of contents was not visible. I decided to buy the digital version and look through it to see if the table was hiding: it was. I couldn't find it by "thumbing through" the electronic pages. I found it only by using the search function. Strange. I've never encountered this before in an e-book.It seems that most of the remedies rely on B vitamins and chelated vitamins are what the author recommends for better bioavailability.I appreciate the herbal recommendations in this book and consider it a nice addition to my collection of herb remedy related books. But it is far from comprehensive in that regard.Chapter X is my favorite with the list of symptoms and remedies. It's pretty straightforward. It's delivered with no fluff, just the facts, ma'am.

I first seen "Earl Mindell" interviewed on "Dina Petty Show from Toronto, Ontario" bouncing across the Great Lakes into N.Y. state. Earl Mindell started his w/ Degree in Pharmacy. As a Pharmacist he could not believe the side effects customers were having. then Dr.s medicating side effects...Started studying the Research on Nutrients, as well as Drug induced nutrient depletion when Drug is Detoxified & went on to get a PhD in Nutrition I believe ..Forgive my typos & etc. please. What You Will Find May Change Quality Life of Loved One, or Yourself Research Based Information that's ahead of National Health Org. Guidelines > EGGS ARE GREAT FOR HIGH HDL as well as excellent balanced protein source !!!!! "Not saying any-all Drugs are not helpful" But your Blood Test can be used as Guide to create healthier longer life w/ alert mind ! " In this recently Man Made Chemical World > Pet's & People do not have "Drug Deficiency's" w/ need for side effects. Take a Statin drug Chronically and end up with Chromium mcg. (micro gram) deficiency > Chromium help nutrients across blood brain barreior & works to control blood sugar levels...... As you cross reference SYMPTOMS it leads back to cause's and one sees simple changes in diet, and need for supplements, herbs extracts, brisk walking > Example " Chronic Unending Stress" = High Blood Pressure, High HDL, Type II Diabetic > many of the same Necessary Nutrients will cross over between conditions, He list Foods w/ highest concentration & Best Forms of Supplements to assimilate into body to address Chronic conditions, or Acute Events like a Stroke to Regain & Maximise Health in spite of the Hyper Fast Pace & Stresses of Modern Life ! I feel I lack the words to reveal impact of Knowledge in Book to return Energy & Feeling Great Again to Modern Fatigued, Stressed, Workaholic Society, and even more to a person who has a body has been wacked out of Balanced Function ! If you are of the latter, and for Cross Reference I would also suggest a 2nd book based on Nutritional Approach To Heal One's Self "Treating And Beating Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" by Dr Roger H. Murphree The second book takes different approach to examine how ones various Systems w/ Essential Nutrients can come up short. NOTE: one does not have to have condition on the cover to benefit from this read Esp. Check 'Appendix A' that has been moved to back of book for SYMPTOM PROFILES, and 'Appendix B' can help you understand your blood test results you get from Dr./ Hospital - in some ways I liked his index from earlier edition, but finding the " 5th Edition " index format is good tool, but different & perhaps better as ended up creating Index to my own conditions in previous on inside back paper cover. Which leads to - Creating Your Own Health"3 Ring Binder" - that one can pop pages into with updated info as you age as a Resource .

good info, lost too much content
better have 20/20 vision very very small print, book too thick to keep open. Too much info for all the supplements, honestly don't really understand which I should be taking for what issue. Please simplify. I listened to him on coast coast am. He's good, he mention Astaxanthin, for skin and will see a difference in 30days, mine less than 30 days. when a NP tells you skin looks good, amazing results for me. Im going to hopefully find one of his books maybe easier for "dummies" (me)

New Vitamin Bible - brilliant book!
This book is indispensable in every household. It describes what illnesses various food supplements are good for and highlights any contraindications. It does not deal solely with vitamins, but also covers different diets, fibre, carbohydrates, enzymes, etc. in fact it answers any question you may have!

An excellent resource
The book is a nice size. It explains different kinds of pills (e.g. synthetic, organic, etc.) in a way that's easy to understand. The information in the book helps you to locate a nutritionally oriented doctor. It's a great self-help aid that doesn't leave you confused. The fast facts, tips, and "did you know" tidbits are very helpful.Earl Mindell's books are very information and are a good read for both the novice and advanced. They're written in an easy to understand manner. Progressive knowledge is included in his books. The Vitamin Bible and Herb Bible should really be purchased together.
