just what a NEW Vegan NEEDS!!
I haven't been Vegan in over 10 years...it didn't work the first time for me. But times are different, more info, more products and easier to get. Anyway...I wanted a book that would help me find or pick-out my new Vegan foods or panty staples. This book has everything from butter to ice cream to mock meats to soup. Everything you need in your kitchen, this book has a vegan option. I like how all the items have several options incase your store doesn't have this one or that one. She even gives a list of secret ingredieants to look out for in your food. I have taken this book to the store several times and it was very helpful. I also read it cover to cover twice. I used it to go through my old non-vegan kitchen to see what staples I had...that needed to be changed. I am 2 months into my new vegan life and things are great. This book really helped...as a person can't always just eat grains and veggies...sometimes you need a power bar or a cookie or something crunchy like crackers.I also love that all the swaps are healthy ones and she explains the difference between your normal accidental vegan item verses a made on purpose vegan item.PS - she gives a list of places to eat, if you can find them and a basic description of all items in the book...so you have the knowledge behind you...before you make the food swap. Also helps when annoying people ask why are you Vegan, whay can't you eat this?? - just quote the book.

Vegan food bible
Kim Barnouin and Skinny Bitch were THE reason I went vegan. It took one day, for me to read Skinny Bitch, and I became a vegan. Thankfully I was a pescetarian first, so the change wasn't SO extreme, however, to cut dairy out was tough. This book I purchased as a gift, for my mother who can't label read to save her life. This book lists products, by name and manufacturer (it literally couldn't be any clearer) to help new vegans or just someone cooking for a vegan to be able to pick up items without having to research themselves. I LOVE how easy it is to find everything in this book. The way it is organized and presented is simple and concise. There is a lot of information, but it is not overwhelming. I think every vegan should have this on their book shelf in the kitchen!

Turning vegan with style
Her wording is an eye opener but I certainly like her straight forwardness. If a reader can get over her colorful use of language, the book is great. Would I buy another book by her..... you bet!!! I found the book to very helpful and quite delightful. Even though I live in Alaska I am able to find the foods she recommends for switching to. I really enjoyed her Weekend Vegan, I found that to be very helpful. Her recommendations for which foods to swap from what a person has been eating was also a great help. This book will always have a place in my totebag.

Funny and Helpful
A quick read with some helpful hints. Some are obvious but never hurts to get that kind of info again. So easy to over look. I liked the specific restaurant section and can only hope that those restaurants are still in operation by the time I get to that city - but fun all the same. Great writing - and so entertaining. I am more interested in "healthy" vegan, not the processed stuff - but all the more reason to have a book that serves up the cheats so that you have a brand to start with - since its not all that familiar. Good, funny book.

My husband bought me this for Mother's Day. I like it, but I wish it had actual recipes in it. It's still helpful for when we go out to eat and I need to eat too lol I won't return it if that's what you're asking!

good if you know what you're getting!
this is not a cookbook so you will be disappointed if you thought you were getting a cookbook. instead it is (exactly what it says) a "this for that" where it will tell you what to substitute. this is super helpful for a new vegan like me who doesn't know what options are out there. It explained so much to me about vegan products AND it tells you what is HEALTHY as well as vegan. sure, you could eat roman noodles everyday and be vegan, but you wouldn't be healthy! I highly recommend this for anyone who is not an experienced vegan shopper!

Easy to follow!
I took a 30 day Vegan challenge and this book helped ease the transition! I still follow a mostly vegan lifestyle because you just feel better! My skin glows, my stomach is happy, and my energy level is high! I have several of the Skinny B*tch books and they are all great! They have a very "down to earth" feel, instead of the sometimes dry nature that recipe books can have. This does have some great recipes and guides on how to swap items when eating out, etc. I highly recommend this for the new Vegan!

Not great for FOK
Not great if you're following plant based, no oil-forks over knives or engine 2- because most of the products she recommends are highly processed and contain oil. I picked up a few tips I guess.

Ist praktisch, aber in Deutschland manchmal nicht wirklich genauso nutzbar.
Ich finde in diesem Buch sind tolle Tips und viele Sachen sind vollkommen wahr, jedoch gerade bei Empfehlungen finde ich es oft schwer dieses Buch für Deutschland umzusetzen, da es die Plätze und auch oft die Produkte hier noch nicht gibt. Aber in den USA dürfte es ein praktischer Begleiter sein.
