Spurred on by a passion for wine and the desire to follow his dreams, Head Winemaker Greg Scheinfeld uprooted his life on the East Coast and moved across the country to get his hands dirty in America’s most prestigious wine region. After cutting his teeth at some of Napa Valley’s most renowned wineries (Cakebread Cellars, Joseph Phelps, and Vineyard 29), Greg decided to take the plunge with his own project and teamed up with his good friend and Tech Venture Capitalist, Jay Levy. Together they formed Uproot. A new kind of winery focused on handcrafting small-lot wines, while simultaneously utilizing innovative delivery, marketing, and customer service techniques to help bring the wine world into the 21st century. Uproot is committed to producing handcrafted premium wines, sourced from low-yield vineyards throughout Napa Valley and the Central Coast. Vineyards like Beatty Ranch (located high atop Howell Mountain in Napa) and Camp 4 (situated along the cool eastern edge of the Santa Ynez Valley) are hand selected for their distinct and unique perspectives. Each vine is meticulously farmed to ensure a more natural and hands-off winemaking approach. Grapes are then harvested to the ideal ripeness, hand-picked and sorted, cold-soaked for a few days, fermented, pressed, and barreled into a mixture of our preferred French cooperages.
