Extra collar for pet containment system

Works good, but collar material is junk
The system itself works great, comparable to the more expensive fences. Haven't had any problems at all, even recommended it to a friend. The only complaints I have are the collar units on/off switch is a pain to turn on and off, should be a plastic inset slide switch, not hold down switch. Secondly, the switch has rubber on it to protect from weather, well normal use after 3 weeks has worn that off already. The only other complaint I have is the collar material, it's very lightweight material and pretty much useless. My dogs (two labs) would have destroyed the collars in an hour flat. So we did the next best thing, went to Pet Supplies Plus and bought two 24" leather collars, drilled a couple holes in them to line up with the prongs on the devices, then using a wrench took the device prongs out, and screwed them back in and tightened on our leather collars. Now they work great and the dogs can't break out of the collars.Only took two times for dogs to learn their boundaries, now I can let them outside most of the time without the shock collars. Also when they do hear the beeping they get it and stop dead in their tracks and back up. So it's very effective and doesn't take near as much training as the manual says. However please note, use of the collars has to be pretty tight on their next, otherwise the prongs don't touch skin. We made the mistake of making it too loose the first time and the golden took off down the street, didn't even feel it. Made it tighter the second go and he got it right away. You want one single finger between the collar and the neck of the dog snugly, not tight but snug. That being said we only use them now when they go outside to stay for awhile or after dark. During normal, everyday use they know their boundaries and don't need them anymore, only took a couple days.I would have given 5 stars but my leather collars to replace those cheap flimsy ones cost me $15 a piece.

Cheap and bulky
The collar is very big, bulky and cheap. I had one collar break after a couple weeks and another kust keeps malfunctioning and zapping my dog constantly. The battery life is about 2 days, so you are constantly changing batteries. I finally bought rechargeable 9 volts and and changing it out every day, which is a long process in itself because you have to remove 4 small screws every time. The system itself seems to work most of the time but my dog is still getting beyond the fence even when I have the setting at 5 and the collar snug. If I hadn't already spent so much money on the system I wouldn't even use it.

It works, when its on the dog. The design of the collar is awful.
This is my second collar, it works decently enough. Detecting the fence is slightly hit or miss. My biggest peeve about this collar is how the strap attaches to it. The first collar, the prongs came off and my dog ended up with a cloth collar with the shocker getting lost.UPDATEI reduced it back to one star, because it broke yet again. There is no point on a collar that has the mechanism fall off the dogs neck all the time. Whats worse this time is, the button fell off so now to turn it on or off, you have to do magic.

this system has caused nothing but grief, after using it for just 5 days i have had one dog injured from the collar, seems the electrodes on the collar are heavy and dig into the neck , (and in this case) causing a sever irritation of the skin leading to a massive infection, almost 100 dollars spent at the vet and hundreds on the system we have had nothing but loss, we also have had one of our english bull dogs escape past the boundary line and almost got hit by a car .our dogs are not the energetic type and move rather slowly so i thought this system would work well with the warning beep first then the shock, but it only beeps with one setting and you have to select another for the shock where as it will beep and shock at the same time.. we now look for compensation from someone and will keep you posted as to the results.

Keeping it dry.
I bought this collar as a back up to the one that came with the Friendly Pet Products Wireless Dog Fence. My ONLY disappointment is with the collar itself. The ON/OFF/Set button has a rubber boot to keep the collar water proof. Good idea, but the boot is very frail. I sensed that from the beginning and was very careful; but alas, my 50lb. Lab found a way to scuff it off. Please look into a more substantial manner to weather proof the button.I ordered another collar after my, now 65 lb. Lab, broke one of the shock pins at the base. The new collar seems much more sturdy and the on/off button rubber boot seems more substantial. So far so good 2 months in.

The dog collars do not work I buy three and none works as they should all work different distances for example one works one foot the other at 10 feet and the third 30 feet so you can not adjust because the first does not work and if you keep adjusting The second does not work but now the three are already working. The other problem is one day I went to work and everything okay at 1:00 pm my wife calls me worried asking what happened to one of my three dogs is scared is shaking and wants to get into the house. When my dogs never enter the worried house I told my wife to remove the dog collar and when I returned from work I checked the dog and the dog collar the dog was already fine but the dog collar was broken from one of The screws and entered the water and caused short causing static correction and the sound that ignored in the dog for hundreds of times until the battery was over and was the rrason of his fear
