A jackknife food thermomter
It seems there’s an endless number of different food thermometer configurations, and so here we have yet another model with some unique design features.First let me get to the most important factor: I have tested this thermometer on a variety of foods and liquids and I can tell you that it accurately reports the correct temperature of food. I have a number of other measurement devices to cross-check the accuracy of any device, so I aassure you this unit is spot on.This unit will measure both Fahrenheit and Celcius. The way you switch is is somewhat cumbersome. You have to open the battery compartment, and there you will find a tiny black switch. One setting is the F and the other is the C. You have to have the unit turned off when you switch the mode! If you don’t, it won’t toggle over to the other measure! Not a big problem -- just want you to know.Another interesting feature of this model is that that needle gauge folds back, like a jackknife, to that you don’t have to have it sticking out all the time. This is actually a big plus. It makes it much easier to store or transport this thermometer, such as when you take it out on picnic where you plan to cook outdoors, or enjoy a BBQ.I should mention that this unit also has a “hold” button so that you can target a predetermined temp.There is a handy chart printed on the handle which gives recommended “done” temperatures for various foods, so that’s handy.This unit as a slightly “cheapy” and “Plasticky” feel to it, as if it is not the most solid and well-put-together unit on the market. This worries me a bit about long-term viability and how this item will hold up over time, but I can’t make that judgment now after only a few days of using and testing.You will need to buy a AAA battery to power the unit because a battery is not included.I really struggle with whether to give this item 4 or 5 stars -- I might detract a star because of the sort of “cheapy” feel it has -- but I don’t think that’s really fair. It performs flawlessly, gets the job done, is easy to use and accurate. Often when something like this happens
Before I start talking about this product, let me say that I was able receive this item totally free. The seller freely gave this product away without anything in return and that is something I appreciate. Often when something like this happens, you wonder if the product has issues, but this is a great product. I love that it works with a AAA battery and not a weird unique battery like some of the other ones out there. I love the fact that it has the temperatures for cooking written on it. As an amateur griller, I find the temps very useful. I usually always forget the proper temperatures and end up googling them, but with this product, I won’t have that issue. Over all, I am very happy with this item and thankful that I got it. I also recommend this to all those who are looking for a digital thermometer.

Wonderful Little Thermometer!
This is a wonderful little thermometer. I've always used the kind of thermometer that you have to leave in (like in a roast). But this is so much more convenient. Last night I used it on steaks, and they came out perfect. Also, this company provides awesome customer service. The original thermometer I received, wouldn't stay closed. I had already been contacted by the company to see if I was enjoying my new thermometer. I responded that there was a problem with it, and they immediately sent me a new one.

Worked great for my medium-rare ribeye!
I am cautiously optimistic about this product. The first item I received was faulty. It was way off on the temperature readings. I tested it against my son's thermometer that he had loaned me and this was way off. It was off for medium-rare steak, baked bread, and testing it under the tongue for human body temp. I decided to return it. The company was great about everything. They promptly sent out a new thermometer (at no cost to me), which seems to be accurate for steak and under the tongue. I haven't made bread lately so haven't tested it for something with a 200 degree temperature. If it does not give a correct reading for the bread (next time I bake) I will update this review to let you all know. Until then, I am optimistic and am inclined to think that the faulty item I received was just a fluke. At any rate, the company is great so I wouldn't be afraid to buy from them in the future if they offered something I wanted. In my communications with them I got the impression that they truly want every customer to be satisfied.

but does not feel like its well built
It performs as advertised, but does not feel like its well built. I expect it to break or stop working inside a year. For the price though, you cant ask for much more.
