Excellent De-Icer for Cold Winters – Perfect for My Pond!
This is my second SLASHCOOL De-Icer, and it's been a terrific addition to my 300 gallon pond. The first one died a tragic death once the cord was clipped by a gardening weed wacker, but I purchased another since it performed so well last winter. I live in the foothills of Northern Nevada, where winter's overnight lows can drop below freezing for several weeks at a time.Using this particular de-icer, my pond remained clear of ice throughout the winter—there was no sign of freezing over. I adore the fact that it is submersible, heavy-duty, and simple to use. It's kept my pond with lilies and Shubunkin fish in excellent condition. I'd highly recommend it to anyone searching for a dependable method to stop their pond from freezing over which can cause oxygen issues for their fish!

Fantastic so far for chickens
I've got a 100 gallon tall tank. I put the red bucket with the yellow pin coming out for chickens at the bottom (5" higher than bottom). They froze. The buckets suck. I tried the metal pin units with just the metal pin. They sucked. Leaked upon installation. I tried 10 of the metal pin with tiny little space for water to sit waterers. With this heater it works fantastically. The design of the waterer and the temp of the heater at 100 gallons (tall not long basically a over sized 55 gallon barrel) the heater keeps them unfrozen and clear. My rambunctious flock has yet to mess it up. Now much like their 55 gallon barrel of food with feed ports, they do like to sling it around. I made a low spot 3ft away from barrel to account for this. They will muddy that 3'. But, it doesn't freeze and I just throw some straw over it so I don't dirty my boots because imbto lazy or busy or both to switch shoes coming in from the farm. I have 3 girls I can't not have boots on in the house. Just saying. One to protect my feet from dolls and Legos and two so I don't have to waste time putting my boots on when the boys show up.You dad's out there, keep your powder dry and your boots always on.

Perfect for small water buckets
I bought this for our sheep with a 10 gallon tank worked great. I got a second one for my chickens water dish holds about 2 gallons and doesn't get too hot. I would definitely buy this one again!

Works good…just doesn’t seem to last
We buy these almost yearly. They work really good…but only seem to last one season.

ShashCool gets an A+
I purchased these a few months ago from SlashCool. They kept my 30 gallon stock tanks ice free through the harshest part of winter, even with -20F temps and heavy snow falls. After a few months the units failed. One day when the temp is only a little below freezing my tank froze over. I contacted SlashCool and they immediately replaced the units. I will definitely do more business with them. Very good, fast and hassle free support.

Didn’t Work as Expected – Returned It
I was really hopeful this submergible de-icer would work for our outdoor water troughs, especially with the colder weather approaching. Unfortunately, after several attempts, we couldn’t get it to work. Despite following the instructions, the unit didn’t seem to heat up or keep the water from freezing. We were dealing with freezing temperatures, and the troughs stayed frozen, which defeated the purpose of having a de-icer in the first place. It’s possible we just got a defective unit, but either way, we ultimately had to send it back.On a positive note, the design seemed solid, and it was easy to set up. If it had worked, I think it would’ve been a great solution for keeping water accessible for our animals during winter. But for now, we’re still looking for a reliable de-icer.

Great for the bird bath all winter
We has 10 gallon sump for the pump on our birdbath. It keeps the water heated just enough to keep the water flowing for the birds , even when it’s 10-12 degrees F. Its temperature controlled too.

Keeps my 55 gallon drum ice free
I have 8 chickens and keep a 55 gallon drum outside of their coop, with a pipe that enters into it for them to drink out of. Everything is great, but where I live, the temps can dip as low as -5F. That doesn't happen too often, but for sure, during the winter, it's not uncommon to get sustained days where the high is below 32F.This is the first year using this (this is also the first year of me keeping chickens!) and we've already had a few 18F low nights. So far, I haven't even seen a hint of frost inside the drum. What's nice is that I don't even have to put it on a temperature controlled outlet. It goes on and off as needed to keep the water from freezing. I'm curious, so I'm going to eventually put a kilowatt meter on it to see how often it's drawing energy and for how long. But the idea of my girls having clean, fresh water and me not having to do anything makes it worth it. 55 gallons is a LOT of water and for that not to freeze is all I need.Just an fyi, I also have a small pump that circulates the water through the pipe when it gets cold, always delivering warm water, because the pipe is probably where the water would freeze first. Anyway, I love this and just makes me have one less chore.
