Obviously a very clever man who has loved this gospel for years.This is a simple commentary that avoids difficult questions and concentrates on bringing out the depth of what John was trying to say.Well presented, big solid hardback, text laid out well and not too small.

This commentary is just as useful for my Master’s level theology assignments and for discussions when translating John’s Gospel from the Greek in a group, as it is for personal reflection and Bible study. I can’t think of another book that does both as well. Its warmth shines through at the same time as its academic rigour. Thank you David for a wonderful book that I will enjoy for a long time. So far everyone I have lent it to has wanted their own copy. Doesn’t that just say it all?

The book is the distillation of decades of David Ford's reading and praying through the Gospel of John. This shines through in the commentary. It combines an academic rigor and spiritual depth. I highly recommended it.

I loved David Ford's Commentary for its depth of learning and inspiration. In particular his brilliant exposition of the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus and its gathering together the past, the present and the future of our salvation is extraordinarily illuminating. His exegesis of John 17, the High Priestly prayer was for me the very climax of the commentary.I have only one criticism. The footnotes are in very small print and even with good eyesight are difficult to read. I would have given five stars, but the overall print is faint.
