Is this really 18 gauge kanthal wire?

Yes, it works phenomenally.  I used it for my home-made kiln and it heats the kiln to 2000F given 120V at 12.5Amps- haven't tested it beyond that although I'm sure the wire itself gets much hotter. Hi, i have a temco kanthal a1 wire 18 gauge 50 ft resistance awg a-1 ga. i can cut this wire in parts of one meter each? thanks.

Yes i use a scissors but  wire clippers are easier

What is the power rating in watts of this wire?

The resistance rating is .518 ohms per foot . So figure out how many feet of wire you need and multiply that times .518. That gives you the resistance . Use ohms law to figure your amperage   Volts = amps x ohms. Take your voltage your using multiply it times your amperage to get your wattage.

i want to make a custom elemtent for a vacuume former, how much power should i give this wire?

wow. If you ask that question you have a long road ahead of you. A1 is great heating wire.  It is not magic. How to start.  Take a long piece, say 30 ft. Put 3.3 V from your computer power supply across it. Monitor the  current, check heating. Adjust length/input voltage. When it gets "hot" put it in an enclosure (fire brick). THEN you get to start playing around. Or the internet can get you a "starting point. I suggest my way. You would discover why. Another plus is that you will not electrocute yourself or burn your house down. Which is nice. Its all trade-offs (wire type, voltage, length, diameter, heat retention v heat loss, time, its a thermo-trip). On the bright side its not that hard to do.
