JUPITER

This album is a real treat for Atheist fans. The sound is mostly similar to Piece of Time and Unquestionable Presence, fitting in very well with those first two. I personally also love Elements, but you can tell the team of Shaefer and Flynn is necessary to create the true Atheist sound. After 17 years, I was hopeful but cautious about this album, not wanting to expect too much. But I think their fans will agree that Jupiter meets the high standards set on the first two, exceeding Elements in technicality and urgency. The immediate standout track to me is Faux King Christ, but all eight songs feature the same frantic, epilectic bursts, speed, and fusion from Piece of Time, as well as the occasional death metal gallops of Unquestionable Presence. And I have to say that I'm happy with the bass work of Jonathan Thompson, who follows the tradition of Roger Patterson and Tony Choy admirably. I actually think this is masterpiece number four from Atheist.

Atheist always was hard to digest but with good quality music.I found this album not as great as their classics, especially the first two which are my favorite.Right, 17 years has passed since the last record, and didn't expect much from it.Kelly's vocals a bit annoying here, different from the old Atheist, but still there are some good songs.Art cover is amazing, worth to buy this album just for it, can stare on it for a while.Overall, it is nice cd, short as always, not as great as classics but still worth a try.

A truly remarkable album for Atheist to return with.Precision metal that is heavy and ferocious yet sensitive enough to not get one dimensional.This album culminates elements from all their previous albums and there is still a progressionin their style. These guys are definitely not rehashing their earlier works.A lot of bands that have a few albums under their belts can start to sound a little stale, yet this is freshand pulsing with unbridled fire.A must have for thrash, death, speed and extreme metal fans

I am a fan of Athiest since their second album "Unquestionable Presence" in 1991 and found their first album "Piece of time" a year later...On Jupiter the first track "Second to Sun" starts you off and the last track I actually found funny of sorts "Third Person"( because I went to highschool with a person who spoke in the "Third Person") finishes the album in the right direction with progressive elements found on unquestionable Presence-(nothing specific just the vibe only) I found this album very listenable from start to finish the only gripe is that they laid down only 8 tracks and that didn't seem long enough to me as a comeback album..I found it kind of sad that frontman Kelly Shaefer is no longer playing lead guitars and due to tendenitis and carple tunnel he has to be the vocalist only in the past Shaefer and Burkey were the only twin left handed lead guitarist team around yes thats right!! not only did they invent progressive death metal they were the only dual lefty lead guitarists team around..Note to buyers....The Japanese imported version of this album DOES NOT HAVE EXTRA TRACKS!!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!you only get 8 songs!!! AVALON/MARQUEE replaces SEAON OF MIST and Japanese writing/songlist in parts of the album thats all

One of the most under rated bands in history. I have followed them for a long time as I grew up in the same area as the band members. If you are into metal then you should check them out!

My first thought was that this is good technical death metal. Then I got into the groove of it and realized that it's a lot like converge with a better guitarist and cleaner vocals. This seems like what old school death metal sounds like when it's modernized; to reiterate myself. Carcass simply doesen't have tese layers of sound, which makes it impossible for me to listen to Carcass and Emperor. I give it 4 stars because people who like that style should relish it. Big plus; limited edition has bumper sticker, which is an atheist fish in transparent sticker, so it looks like one of those silver plastic thingies. Jesus doesn't rule anything, he's dead; get over it!

Waiting for an Atheist album for 15 years and it's great. Better recorded and produced than the old ones, if you want a great death metal record in 2011 this is the real deal.

A big surprise here. I've never been much of an Atheist fan, but after checking this album out online I was absolutely blown away. Highly recommended.

Coming some 17 years after Elements you'd be mistaken for a complete change but no this is more like the first two albums,a lot heavier than Elements and forsaking the latin beats,two members remain albeit Scott Flynn from the first two albums and not the third and Kelly whose vocals are unmistakable,a relatively short album at 34 minutes but it is like listening to 5 albums at once,intense stuff.

Sono stato in dubbio se dare 3 o 4 stelle, il disco ha dei meriti: stile immutato da '90, brani vorticosi, ritmiche mai statiche e tanta energia. Confrontare Jupiter a Unquestionable Presence sarebbe ingeneroso: oggi la sezione ritmica spinge, allora dipensava genio; oggi il songwriting è di spessore, allora faceva la storia. Se si rapporta invece Jupiter al metal estremo odierno, ha decisamente piu chance, brani come Second to Sun o Fictious Glide guardano dall'alto quasi tutti.

Después de mas de 15 años vuelve una de las bandas adelantadas a su tíempo. Júpiter ha sido criticado por no estar al nivel de sus obras maestras, pero para quien en verdad disfrute del Metal Técnico y de Atheist, no tengo duda de que apreciarán este gran trabajado. La edición es un bonito digipack importado con portada en relieve al tacto y la impresión es una belleza, contiene también un sticker. Por el precio es una verdadera ganga

No es inquestionable presence, pero es un buen disco, tampoco han regresado con una gloria equivalente a carcass, a los que daría un 10 con su surgical steel, pero a atheist sí podría darle un 8 perfectamente.

Soy fan de esta banda, y de su estilo; fusionando Death Metal con otros géneros musicales (Jazz, Funk,.... ) Muy Grandes

Una nueva pieza maestra de precisa velocidad y agresiva tecnica de esta banda que nunca ha tenido el reconocimiento que se merece como referentes del death metal tecnico, esta banda ha influenciado a cientos de grupos del estilo. Este edicion en cd es ademas hermosa, un digipack con relieve en la cubierta frontal y impreso en papel metalico tornasol, ademas viene con un sticker de coleccion con el logo de la banda. Por este precio no encontraras nada mejor.

あかん・・・めちゃカッコええ・・・初めデータを見たときには「8曲だけ！？トータルでもえらい短いなあ・・・」と物足りなく感じていたのですが実際聴いてみたら始めから終りまでテクニカルに隙を見せることなく疾走するし、相変わらずセンスあるし、特筆すべきは何といってもKelly Shaeferのボーカルですよ。腱鞘炎でしたっけ？（もっと酷かったですかね？）ギターやめてボーカルに専念してから、今回は特に歌い方が格好良い！！それと、エイシストといえば二代続いた超テクニカル変態ベースが特徴でしたよね・・・今回メンバーかわってどうなるのん？と不安でしたが・・・　あかん、めちゃ格好ええやん・・・

伝説のテクニカルデスメタルバンド、ATHEISTの記念すべき復活第一作！相変わらず楽器陣の演奏がデスメタルと思えないほど華麗。1曲目から何かが迫り来るような、ただならぬ雰囲気を漂わせ、その緊張感がたまらなくカッコいい。一曲一曲が練りに練ってあり、リフ1つとっても曲に全く隙を感じさせない。細部まで気を配り、細心の注意を払って曲作りを行ったかのような緻密さが伝わってくる。曲はかなり複雑だが、ただ複雑にしたり長かったり、或いは一部の楽器だけが浮き立つといったような決して自己満に陥らず、きちんと整合性がとれている。リフに1st「Peace Of Time」でやっていたスラッシュメタル的要素を取り入れており、且つ2nd「Unquestionable Presence」3rd「Elements」で強調し始めたプログレ、アバンギャルドな部分を大胆に注入したかのような言わば集大成。全曲が疾走系で激しいが、激しさの中にもタイトル、イメージに見合った神秘的な世界観を思わせるサウンドがアルバム全体に広がっている。再結成を経て今もATHEISTとしての魅力を損なわずデスメタルに知性と神秘性を融合してる所がこのバンドの魅力でもある。本作はこれからATHEISTを聴こうとする人にも最初に勧められる紛れも無いATHEISTサウンドが満載。収録時間に関しては32分と確かに短いようだが、楽曲が悪かったら32分でも長く感じたわけで、それだけこのアルバムの完成度が高いという風に思っている(でも2ndと3rdもそのぐらいの収録時間だったような)

Atheist復活第一弾。再結成すると期待と不安が同時にでるけど、この作品はAtheistらしさそのままで1stや2ndに続く傑作のひとつ。何度聞いても飽きない演奏や展開はさすが大御所Atheist。テクニカルデスの元祖。

アメリカのテクニカルデスメタル、エイシストの復活作。2010年作1990〜93年の間に3作を出して消えた彼らが、昨年ライブアルバム&ベストを出したと思ったら、案の定スタジオ新作も用意していた。存在感の大きかったベースも含めてメンバーに若干の変化があるものの、音を聴いてみればなんの心配もなし。のっけから変則リズムとキメの連続による変態系テクニカルメタルが炸裂。ヴォーカルの声はやや迫力に欠けるが、むしろデス要素が薄まって聴きやすくなったといえるかもしれない。ただ30分強のアルバムなので物足りなさもあり、そしてインパクトはあるが、ひとつひとつのリフとフレーズ、曲としての印象の点では、まだかつての音ほどではない。ともかく復活したからには、今後に期待する。
