The Fundamentals of Equine Assisted Trauma Therapy: With Practical Examples from Working with Members of the Armed Forces

I highly recommend Fundamentals of Equine Assisted Trauma Therapy, by Ilka Parent. It is a must read for everybody, both therapists and equine specialists - interested in working with horses in a theraputic setting. Even if it concetrates on trauma work, and espeically with the armed forces, it lines out the theortical base, needed to be understood, behind all therapy work with horses.  The Fundamentals of Equine Assisted Trauma Therapy: With Practical Examples from Working with Members of the Armed Forces

Ilka does an amazing job of explaining the principles at work in equine assisted psychotherapy. Clear, informative and detailed. Ilka is able to put concepts and processes in a way that is helpful to both the mental health professional and the equine specialist. If you want to understand the how and why equine-assisted work, Ilka's book is a must-read.

A very informative book in regards to equine-assisted trauma therapy. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in this type of work.

Not what I expected.

This is an amazing and inspiring book by Ilka that deals with helping those who have suffered trauma in their lives by using horses as assistants in their road to recovery. The book was an enlightening read for me as clearly and easy describes the principals of equine assisted work and takes the reader through the powerful insights she has in her methodological approach of psychodynamic equine assisted psychotherapy and then how these can be applied. Much of the focus of the book deals with trauma experienced by military veterans and this is such an important area of work and much needs to be done. As an early level practitioner in equine assisted learning and someone who wants to do work with veterans and first responders, I thank Ilka for her book so very much.

As a therapist who is new to the field of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, this book was very informative! It helped me to better understand the process and principles of using horses to work with survivors of trauma. I would highly recommend this book!

This is a 5 Star Publication, it is extremely well written, all issues or item are very well explained and put forward, a must read for any one in the Equine therapy business, or on their way to become such. Many Thanks to Ilka Parent for writing this book and sharing her experiences with PTSD and the military.

I can highly recommend this book, especially to anyone considering becoming EAGALA trained as an Equine Specialist as I am, it is clear concise and easy to understand and will become a reference book for me as I make my first ventures into Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. The Author also trained me in 2014 in Ayrshire Scotland explaining perfectly the EAGALA model and is a very talented and gifted person.

Brilliant book
