Great alternative to paper muffin tins
The 14-pack silicone baking cups are a great alternative to muffin tins, with a few important considerations. The baking cups come in a rainbow variety of cheerful colors. They did not have any discernible chemical odor that you sometimes have with silicone products and did not change the taste of any food baked in them. Nevertheless, I did wash them once before using the first time. They can be used as either inserts in a muffin tray but are also strong enough to place on a cookie sheet and can stand alone. You can definitely serve your cupcakes or muffins inside the silicone cups, but if desired you can still use them with muffin tins or papers inside the silicone baking cups, if you still want to serve your cupcakes or muffins with muffin papers. (This option might be used if you are making cupcakes or muffins for a bake sale.)Similar to most silicone baking equipment, you may have to experiment with baking times. The silicone is somewhat insulating when compared to muffin tins or papers and this may necessitate a slightly higher temperature or length of baking time.Once you work out the differences, though, the silicone baking cups are really quite convenient. You can use them to make traditional muffins or cupcakes but may also use them to make things like breakfast egg muffins where you don't want the final product to have a muffin tin around it. Making breakfast egg muffins is quite easy in these. Even when I use a non-stick muffin pan, getting the egg muffin out sometimes requires major excavation. It's much easier to effortlessly pop these right out of a silicone mold.I did not try this, but silicone is microwave safe, so--at least theoretically--you could use these to bake or make egg muffins in a microwave. The molds clean easily and are compact and easy to store. As with most silicone baking products, these start off very brightly colored and attractive. They do, however, discolor a bit with use, which is especially noticeable with the lighter colors. This does not affect their use, but does make them slightly less attractive for serving. All in all, I am quite pleased with these muffin cups. They are versatile, come in a variety of cheerful colors, and are reusable. Recommended.
