Quit Complaining About the "Princess Problem", and Do Something Positive About It
From time immemorial little girls have loved pretending to be princesses even though their chances of actually becoming such have always been virtually nil. In recent years it has become fashionable to fret about such things (something of an overreaction IMHO), but assuming you have reason for concern, what can you do? Well, you can rant and rave and deny your daughter certain playthings, which will only make her cry and desire them all the more, or you can do something constructive. This book offers a marvelously constructive alternative for Christian parents of young daughters. Christianity teaches that ALL of us have the opportunity to become adopted sons and daughters of God the Father by accepting the sacrifice of His Only Begotten Son as payment for our sins. Thus, accepting God as our King, we become princes and princesses. This book gently makes this point by retelling in three pages each of simplified language the story of 29 "princesses by faith" from the Bible (the 30th princess is the story of YOU or rather, your daughter). Each story begins with verse references so you can look up the original story in your Bible, followed by a four line verse in the pattern of "Mirror, mirror on the wall, Who was the _____ princess of all?..." Three pages of story follow, then a memory verse, then a page of three questions to ponder. Each Bible "princess" has an attribute emphasized in the story: Eve was the first princess; Sarah, the surprised princess; Rahab, the brave princess; Ruth, the loyal princess; Abigail, the peaceful princess; Esther, the daring princess; Mary, Jesus' Mom, the obedient princess; etc., and the text is complimented by Sergey Eliseev's gorgeous artwork.About the only complaints I've heard from other Christians is that the book is too pink and the illustrations, too cute. Um, OK, but pink really isn't a Satanic color, no matter what I or other fathers of daughters have been overheard to mutter, and cuteness is not Evil, though in overdose it can cause dizziness in the average male (Just sit him down in his favorite chair, pop in a DVD with lots of explosions, and he'll be fine).Note: All Biblcal quotations included are from the New Living Bible.Note: A board book version adapted for younger girls is also available, somewhat unfortunately titledΒ My Princess Bible , as yet unexamined by me, which appears to have been the victim of an externally organized campaign of hate-filled ranting one star reviews by anti-Christian bigots. The two star reviews on the other hand appear to be honest critiques written by people who regard the attempt to make use of princess imagery as compromising with the world. I respectfully disagree, as I also respectfully disagree with those who say the same about Christian Rock & Roll.

Great idea... but I was disappointed
This book was a disappointment and I wish I hadn't purchased it. The same static image of a woman in a standing pose is used for every page of the story of that princess. My daughter asked me why they used the same picture on both pages (and she is very obviously bored because there are so many words and no action illustrations)! This book would be infinitely better if they had given pictures that illustrated the main event of each of the characters (they had the space to do this; I don't know why they didn't). She and I both really like the concept of thinking of the women in the Bible as valued daughters of the King but this did not meet our hopes. The princesses that are popular these days for little girls are the fictional ones, who wait for prince charming. Through the purchase of this book, I hoped to give her illustrations of REAL women who had admirable character and who were full of faith as well -- women I would want my daughter to emulate.Aside from the illustration issue, one thing I do not like about the content of this book is that the titles that were given to some of these women to sum up who they were (and therefore the virtue that was being upheld) didn't seem to fit with who they were. Sometimes those titles misrepresented these women because they miss the point of the story about these women. For example, Priscilla was named "The Respectful Princess" -- what does that have to do with who she was? She was a teacher, and she and her husband taught Apollos. She should be the "discipling princess" because she TAUGHT and DISCIPLED Apollos (or the "teaching princess", though I know that title was already used for Huldah, but Huldah should have been "the Prophet Princess"). Jesus calls his followers (men and women) to be disciplers and to teach other believers all that he has commanded us. This would be a great characteristic to add in there.Other example - Anna who worshiped in the temple every day, night and day -- she was given the title of "the Patient Princess" -- a better title should've been "The Worshipful/Worshiping Princess". This was the key quality in her that is being highlighted in the description of her... an incredible quality that I aspire to emulate! The book itself is a great idea and I applaud the author for her vision and and her work... I just wish it could be tweaked in those ways. *Then* I could wholeheartedly like it.

My daughter loves it!
I do a Bible study with my 5 year old as a part of our homeschool each morning. We just began this book, as we'd finished our last. She LOVES it, and is much more engaged with this one. It caught her attention, kept it, had her thinking with the follow up questions, and she even told her friends about it!! I would say it would be good for ages 4 and up.

Excellent except for one key thing
I love the idea of this book! Love how it entices little girls in love with Disney into the lives of God's daughters ans true princesses, heirs to His kingdom! So lovely that there are little princesses representing cultures from all over the world on the pages. It's wonderful to see every story point back to Christ and God's plan and His glory. There are even questions and applicable Bible verses to spark thought and conversation with your little princesses at home. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is that every single one of the Biblical princesses is white. I really like the artistic style and obviously the artist was thinking about different ethnicities when it came to drawing the little girls on each page, I just wish that could've carried over into the Biblical princesses who were almost certainly all very dark skinned. I would love to see those changes in a new edition. Everything else is fantastic.

A lovely re-telling of these bible stories
This book is good quality with great little poems and stories. It focuses on the women of the bible and is a great gift for children learning what it means to be a girl of God.

Engaging...
My granddaughters have enjoyed the stories and ask for them each night. I am pleased with how the children respond to the way the story is written. They are engaged immediately. I enjoyed reading them.

Wonderful book to share with girls!!!
This is a very nice book. I just received it today in the mail, but what I have read so far is really good. Not just that the language is perfect for little princesses but also there is a good explanation in every story, like a life lesson and a short Bible verse that's easy to memorize for even a 5-6 years old. The pictures are cute and opposite to some other review about the characters being only white.... it's not so at all!!! All in all, can't wait to snuggle up with my daughter and take new adventures with Princess Stories.Thank you Carolyn and Sergey for creating such a wonderful book with true values!!!!
