Psychiatry Test Preparation and Review Manual E-Book

For MOC, a winner but see what I say in retrospect...
For MOC, it worked great, and in fact I was over-prepared. I initially was taking notes on thing, generally all the neurology, and genetic disorders, and there was so little of either on the MOC. Toward the end I was just scanning through the answers primarily to questions that I answered wrong on. In retrospect, I would have spent each evening taking 1 of the 6 different 150 question exams, circled questions upon which I had to guess, and then gone back and reviewed the answer information only for questions I answered wrong or had to guess. That would have left me plenty of time to rack out 1 test each evening. And again, I would not have gotten real deep into the neuro and genetics subjects- just scanned through them at most. I did not even touch the vignettes at the back of the book so can't comment on how useful them may have been, but MOC did not really have a vignette with several questions tied to it, which is presumably the format that replaced the oral component (I did the oral).

Used it about 4 times before the test and easily passed, used this along with the BoardVitals question bank. They also have the book in an online format which was very convenient.

Boards passed!
This was the one things I used to study for the psychiatry boards, and passed with no problems. Easy to divide up and do when I had time. Definitely use the online resources that come with the book too, as doing the vignettes was important for understanding the general format.

Error in printing this book (pages missing!)
Good questions and explanations for the most part. The book itself had probably about 10-20 pages that weren't printed or in the wrong place. I didn't notice until I had marked up a large chunk of the book already. The content is pretty good. I will agree there are some factual errors and incorrect answers or poorly worded questions. Overall the book more helpful than not so I'm putting up with it all to pass my boards.

So-so
There were many helpful questions but they were interspersed with many overly simplistic or overly technical questions to (in the first case) provide learning points to most readers or (in the second case) provide a learning point that is likely to be on a board exam. Much of the neurology in particular was overly technical compared to what was included on my PRITE exams or my first board exam. There were also multiple (average 4-5 per practice exam) flat out incorrect answers and/or explanations--not points of debate--straight up factually incorrect. In general, I will say the level of detail in the answer explanations was better than seen with many such question-based exam prep materials. 3 and 1/2 stars if that were possible and with the relative paucity of affordable study options , I am grateful that the author provided this resource.

Psychiatry Resident Review.
Still using it for my PRITE prep for this year. I like this style of prep. The media is a bonus. I really gives you the option for various methods of learning.

Disappointing
This is considered an important book to utilize for board review; despite generally useful content and a plethora of information, the text itself leaves a lot to be desired. There are a variety of misprints in the book leading to pages where questions are missing and other areas where answers to the questions are missing. This is a basic necessity for a guide such as this. These misprints are not only limited to this, but also to the online access code which was the same on three different copies of the book I ordered off Amazon. In addition, I attempted to contact Elsevier (the publisher) about these issues and received an extraordinary amount of resistance and no actual resolution or response from the company. In addition, the content itself had areas of answers that were incorrect or were not appropriately updated to the DSM-5; my overall impression was that the company rushed out this publication for sales and the book did not go through an appropriate overhaul in content and information.Although this book might be a necessary source of information for studying, you might want to reconsider and purchase another source of questions.

excellent value
some say this is better than a board review question bank for preparing for the boards; definitely also helpful for the PRITE

great book
It summarizes K&S very well. I understood many issues I had difficulties all this while to grasp their true content.
