So many uses for this
This tool is a must-have. This one is very sturdy. I am using it to break up rocky soil where I am making a berry patch, so I have wailed on rocks with it and it's still not wobbling or loose. I'm old and don't want to hurt my back digging and shoveling, so I sit on a gardening stool and break up the soil with this in the hole, then dig the dirt out with a short handled shovel. Works great. This is also good for raking fertilizer and seeds into topsoil.

Very good tool
Different version of older “ground hog”which is still good after 20 years. Just a bit of tape secured handle after 18 years of use.

Good tool
Need to add a grip to the handle..... as is, it is very slippery and small.

My new gardening “go to” tool
I love the Japanese gardening tools. This one exudes strength, weight and balance perfectly. The soil is terrible where I live, clayie and drys like a rock, while tough weeds adore it. YET, this little tool slices through it, with both ends: hoe and fork. The fork end tines are sharpened and spaced perfectly to allow a raking ability without easily clogging. I own an American made axe length pick/hoe that this soil bent the hoe end of, making it worthless. This little beauty is worth twice it’s price.

Welded not forged
"Forged" is misrepresentation, and construction does not "look" Japanese, so who knows if it is carbon steel or just iron. None of the reviews speak of durability. But I will use it for model for forging class and harden tongs and blade, because it has a good feel for hands-and-knees garden work (although handle is a crude cylinder, going to blister the heel of the hand in an hour). A mattock would be better for a big job, but this tool should be good between rose bushes, say.
