thick, highly textured, frayed edge
This is great paper and I personally love it, but it's very thick and highly textural, so that has to be what you're looking for. The quality is high end and I love the packaging, It feels very project based and it's a beautiful process to have one of these beautiful, high quality pages in front of you when you start a watercolor. The photo I shared is a variety of W&N watercolors, with some prisma colored pencils in the center. This was just a color study of what various reds did on the page.

Beautiful paper
This paper is gorgeous. It was somewhat difficult to draw on due to the grooves and bumps in the paper but after I tested it out for a few minutes I got the hang of it. If you do happen to draw on it and make a mistake erasing it a couple times does damage the paper so I would avoid that if you can help it. It took my watercolors better than I expected and overall I’m happy.

gorgeous thick and quality paper.
This is gorgeous paper. So far I have only used one sheet for a gift painting. The price is exorbitant when shipping and handing are factored in. I didn't expect the cost but I will love having this paper for special paintings. I think it was shipped directly from India??

Super thick paper
I've tried watercolor painting on this with mixed results because it is so heavily textured. What I have used it for is to mount other art rather than using a mat. This is super heavy and textured paper, so if this is what you want, go for it. But from a practical standpoint, it is difficult to paint on because of that. You can only get wobbly lines because of the. texture. It's very heavy and nice, but I'm still trying to figure out that to use it for. Maybe abstracts ?

It can be used for some things, not for a lot of common watercolor techniques.
The photo is of a sheet of this paper that was soaked with water, then allowed to dry enough that it was just damp so that an even wash of blue could be applied. As you can see, the quality of the paper is such that some areas of the paper soaked up the pigment and other large areas of the paper repelled it. I can only assume that the post consume waste that they make into the pulp is not properly processed. The paper is VERY heavily textured, more so than most cold press papers. The paper does have uses - I actually like the mottled look I got with the blue wash - it was intended to be the watery background for a top view painting of Koi done with gouache over the watercolor - so this will work. Additionally, this should work OK for wet on dry watercolor and gouache applications.Bottom line is that I won't buy this again once I use this pack up.

Surprisgreat stuffe!
I never used rough paper before, so there was a bit of a learning curve. However, this really behaved like much much heavier paper. Tape came off without problem, not too absorbant for the amount of water used, paint flowed easily. I would buy it again - I like the way it textures paintings.

Leaves color looking dull and flat
This paper has a beautiful, rough texture but when the paper dries it leaves the paint looking *very* dull and flat. I’ve used many different types and quality of paints on this paper and even the most expensive brands lose their luster and vibrancy once dry.I attached a side-by-side comparison between this paper and pretty basic Carson XL cold press paper.I like this paper for its hand-made look & feel, and will definitely be using it for *other* craft projects, but I wouldn’t recommend it for any use with watercolors.
