BOSCH BL2161 1-Piece 17/32 In. x 6 In. Fractional Reduced Shank Black Oxide Drill Bit for Applications in Light-Gauge Metal, Wood, Plastic

I wasn't able to find this particular size of bit at any local store & didn't feel like asking them if they'd special order me one so I found this one on here & it works great for wood which is its intended material if I remember correctly & it's drilled a few hundred holes in some very dense hardwood & hasn't have any issues at all makes clean passes giving that you don't jerk or the material don't move when drilling it dose have a helfty shaft which isn't a problem for me because my drill press is able to accommodate just a little bit bigger for the maximum bit size. Again I've drilled hundreds of holes with this bit into extremely hard dense wood with no issues & it's still works just as good as the first time I've used it & haven't had to sharpen it or anything it's held up for quite some time seems to be a great bit to me.

Used to install a front trailer hitch in a truck frame. No issues with drilling 6 holes. So, it must be worth the price. First hole and last all seemed exactly the same to drill.

I bought 4 17/32" bits thinking I would use them all, but alas I will be returning 3. I was able to drill through over 4 inches of stainless steel and 2 inches of hitch steel (not sure of type) with just 1 bit. It is still good and sharp. Of course I used sound drilling technique (plenty of lubricant, relatively low speed, and kept the bit from overheating, took my time...), but I'm still impressed! Excellent product! Would recommend!

bought to drill holes in the frame of a truck and it worked great! we bought 2 just in case 1 broke and never needed the second one. Was also worried that the steel would eat the bit right up but that was not an issue either

Why a company (not Bosch) would sell you a 'kit' that includes a riv-nut that requires a bit this size, and not provide a cheap bit for the kit is beyond me. None of the big box stores carries this size bit and its not found in any bit set or step bit that I found. Annoying to have to wait to install something because you have to 'Amazon' a single bit. Thankfully Bosch comes through, and Prime helps get it to you quickly. Haven't used this yet, but it appears solid and sharp. I wouldn't imagine it will last for lots of heavy drilling (total speculation), but for light and infrequent use, it appears ready to rock-n-roll. The price seems right for a general purpose bit of this size. On the negative side, the item description below the item specs shows that this bit should have a '3 flats shank' design, but this is not the case. This bit has a smooth, round 1/2 inch shank. Dont buy this if you only have a 3/8 inch drill chuck. I will update this review after using this bit for a while.

Used this for a ‘66 Mustang Shelby drop. Unique size for that. Very thick metal on the strut tower, this did a good job drilling it out.
