Gripping book
This is such an incredibly well written book. I tried really hard to read it slowly as I was enjoying it so much. The characters have so much depth you almost forget they are only in a book and not people you know! An intriguing story as well and every mums worst nightmare. In places the suspense is quiet suffocating. My only negatives are the awful cover I feel devalues such a brilliant and well written novel. And secondly where do the pets go????? Do they take them back to Norway?? And what became of the cat???? Xxx

Absolutely terrific
Goodness this was a great story. I love Scandi-noir and can absolutely see this as TV series - can't wait. Terrific plot that absolutely raced along with plenty of red herrings along the way. I did guess Marcus' involvement about half way through but was blindsided at the end when I thought perhaps I'd been wrong. Turned out I was right. I was so sorry to finish it and already have Alex's other books on my wish list. 10/10.

Every parent’s worst nightmare, in book form. But SO worth the read.
It’s every parent’s worst nightmare - letting your child go for a sleepover with seemingly good people, only to go missing the following day.If you haven’t given it a second thought yet, you will do after reading this, because if this book highlights one thing, it’s the hidden pitfalls of parenting - trusting total strangers with our precious children, posting photos and identifiers of ourselves and our children online for anyone to see, telling strangers far too much about ourselves. This book really does make you think. It’s not scary, but it will help you reflect on these things. The story itself is totally engrossing. Originally set in Norway (Dahl is Norwegian-American), but crossing international borders; this book took me on a journey through mainland Europe, telling a tale from multiple perspectives and several cultures.I especially enjoyed reading from little Lucia’s perspective. She’s afraid and unsure, and the reader completely feels that through Dahl’s writing. The other perspectives were all vital in the storytelling and all were very well executed. At no point was I tired of the pace or the plot. I enjoyed it from start to finish ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

a while to get to the point
64 chapters before it really gets to the point of the story. Bit long winded for my liking but still a good story overall. Some of it is in French.

Brilliant
The author captures you into the story line right from the beginning and with the twists and turns has you guessing the outcome all the way to the end. Brilliantly written and thoroughly enjoyable. I found this book very hard to put down and now cannot wait to read another of Alex Dahl's books, in fact it has already arrived!!!!
