So far so good!
PROS: The box has a surprisingly small profile for a box that can contain so much food! The bottom and middle box levels are of comparable size and can be packed quite full.I've read people are frustrated with the shallow top level, but I find it is fabulous if you have enough creativity to put it to good use. I have packed the bottom two levels with lettuce and veg for a salad and used the shallow top level for croutons (to keep them from getting soggy too soon). I've filled it with blueberries (a surprising amount of small berries fit up there!) or put green beans or a chopped up hot dog in that space. It can, of course be used for utensils or napkins if that's what you want. The bag is ADORABLE. The large loop, once pulled through the small loop, fits comfortably around my wrist and I can carry it without wasting needing a freehand (which is important when going out the door in the morning with Many Things in hand). And I find I'll take the bag to carry an apple and granola bar even if I'm not taking the box with me.Also (and this may just be in my head, but) because of the conductivity of stainless steel, when I pack the bento box with an ice block, the food seems VERY cold when I get to lunch, which is comforting. So far, no lingering food odor or discoloration. The product description claims it won't ever happen, and so far that's true.CONS: The only downside so far is that it can't go in the microwave, but I knew that would be the case when I bought a stainless steel box. But this isn't my only bento box, so when I have a meal that needs reheating I use a different bento box or put that portion of the meal in a small plastic tub. Or I'll take the to-be-heated item out and use one of the flimsy paper plates in the office break room to heat up the item in a microwave. Even without improvising, this box is great for salads, sandwiches, fruit and veg.I hand-wash the box pieces (even though it says dishwasher safe), and they will spot easily and noticeably if you let them air dry; I imagine they spot in the dishwasher as well. But honestly, once I pack them with food the next day, they're so cute looking, it doesn't matter if they're spotty. You need to use all the levels of boxes to get the latch to work as intended. But I've done this, and there's no extra weight or inconvenience to carry empty levels with you. The box has a SURPRISINGLY small profile when all the pieces are combined and locked. When it's this small, it doesn't really make that much of a difference. If I were to lose one of the boxes for some reason, I could totally continue to use the other boxes so long as I had the lid and/or the shallow top level box -- a couple of rubber band and I'd be back in business. Not water-tight. But we knew that going in. *Most* bento boxes aren't water-tight, I've found. If I need something to hold liquid, I use rubbermaid, or better yet, mason jars (my go-to for soup, dressing, or dipping sauce). But this box is find for "wet" things like pasta salads or other opre-sauced/dressed items. The bag, while adorable, is rather feminine. I love it, but I don't even consider sending it with the men in my life.

Had to return it.
It was so nice and much bigger than how it looked in the pictures of the other previews and looked like it could really hold a lot of food as well. Unfortunately when I received mine one of the metal clasps was loose and had to return.I did like it I just wish the clasps on them worked better.

Great for child lunch
My daughter (4) was able to latch & unlatch without problem. Sometimes, I remove the latches and just use 1 main container. I like the stainless steel b/c I put an ice pack in her insulated lunch box and food remains cold. Good product. We don't use the bag Since she has a lunch box, but it is a nice quality made small bag.

I absolutely dislike this product
I absolutely dislike this product! First, the tote bag is a joke...difficult to squeeze the containers inside the tote without spilling my food. Secondly, the containers keep popping open...again, spilling the food. I wish I would have sent this item back as soon as I opened the box!

Carry this everywhere when we travel.
Love this! Carry it everywhere. The three compartment design is fantastic. High quality hinges. I carry this everywhere. Keeping Styrofoam out of environment. Will probably order more for the rest of my family. The cotton carrying case is a nice, extra bonus.

Infuriatingly Impractical for Kids, and Lacking in Durability
I am a teacher for children ages 3-8. I have had two children in my class (ages 5 and 7) use this exact combination of lunch pail and bag, and I just need to say how infuriatingly impractical they are. For one thing, one of the children's boxes broke a few weeks into the school year, so rather than being able to use the hinged closure he is now stuck using stretchy headbands to keep it closed. Even before this happened, though, getting the three pieces stacked in the right order so that the hinged closures latch properly is nearly impossible for a young kid to do. This means they have to re-stack them multiple times to get it right, leading to plenty of spilled food as well as incredibly loud clangs when the various pieces inevitably fall to the floor. When they finally do stack up just right (usually after an adult has intervened to help, decreasing the child's independence), then stuffing it into the bag in the right direction and pulling the ludicrously short handle through the loop to "close" the bag is the next hurdle to jump. After that, they toss the whole thing into their backpack and the loop almost certainly comes open again, and who knows what could spill or seep out of the cracks in the metal even if it is properly latched.Long story short, I have politely requested that the parents of these children find alternative means for packing and transporting their school lunches. Save yourself some money and buy something more practical and independence-friendly from the get-go and you and your children will be much better off.
