Fashion Designer's Resource Book: Fashioning Your Life

A plethora of information and great background on the workings of the fashion world, especially for those interestedin, but new to the business. The layout of the book is well considered and intriguing. Note that she writes from a Britishperspective, but does include case studies, details and examples from around the world.

I am an Independant Fashion Designer and I was searching for ideas toward my business and I don't mind saying, this book has a wealth of information whether your just starting out knowing nothing about breaking into fashion or even if you know something about fashion (theres always new tricks to learn). It has very structured advice and information in the order you should be considering the issues of starting a fashion business. No nonsense writing that just gets stuck in, I was amazed how much information is jammed packed by the time you reach page 52! I am now on page 111 and this is my new favourite resource book. Definitely worth your money.

Samata Angel’s book is outstanding, it has depth and breath.I really enjoyed all the pearls of wisdom I learned about the fashion industry. This book covers everything - from concept and design to wholesale price points to retail product placement. This book shows you "the what" and "the how" like no other apparel industry book has.What I especially enjoyed learning about was the legal information. Thank you Samata, for you saved me much heartache. This is what I read books for - to gain knowledge and insight from people who have done it before me, do it better than me, and write it down to share with us curious souls and thirsty minds.By far, the most impressive, knowledgeable and useful guide to everything from the decision to start your own fashion business to handling everything.She writes very articulately and succinctly. I purchased this book after seeing Samata Angel's work with the "Red Carpet Green Dress" initiative, and I was overwhelmed with the sheer beauty of her designs. I have students interested in fashion and merchandising, so I purchased a copy to share with them and found myself not devouring it cover to cover. The layout and design allows the reader to visualize the various steps of making a clothing line come true. I plan on using this book in the future to teach students about aesthetics, career planning, and why diversity in fashion is so critical. Ms. Angel's success as a young designer will inspire all of us--part-time fashionistas, novice businesspeople, as well as full-fledged designers.

This book has wealth of information from starting your career in the fashion business (where to study, the main fashion cities etc.) to how to set up your own fashion business (write a business plan, seek funding, production etc.)Even for me (who has graduated and worked in the industry for awhile, and now is about to launch my own label) found a lot of helpful information, it is definitely a resource book worth keeping!The language is easy to understand, no fuzz and with a lot of case studies. Really looking forward to Samata's second book!

Such a thorough and useful read. This book has given me confidence to take up fashion design but also has very realistic points. Very useful with the manufacturing contracts and sample CV page and the business plan part. My favourite part was getting your collection made and how to go about it properly. Great work.
