wow!
This fantasy world is wow!! This book is perfection!! I cannot put it down because it is soooo good. I love every single character and you can feel all the emotions, happiness and angst. I absolutely love Jael… yup!! Jael is perfect… Oss doesn’t deserve her… neither does Edamond … even if he has his excuses.

Excellent epic fantasy
Wonderful storytelling with interesting plots & sub plots. My only complaint would be too many characters with too rapid shifting between POV’s. Would prefer at least a chapter at a time, as in the Game of Thrones books by George RR Martin. The shifting POV between characters, often a paragraph at a time, makes it quite challenging to keep track of who is who, & which side they’re on, assuming you know which side. Other than that, fine storytelling with characters that the reader quickly comes to care about, while wondering what is in store for their future.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat
When I started the series I wasn't sure I was going to like it. Its written differently than other fantasy series I usually read. Surprisingly, I've grown to enjoy the writing style. I've also grown to enjoy this story and characters. There's so many moving parts that its constantly keeping you guessing what's going to happen next. You're definitely cheering on the FMC. There are some darker parts of the story that can be a bit unnerving or sad. Overall, I'm desperate to know what happens next!

Lot bar's plan to take Hesitant goes badly
5 starsGood development of Tuaran prediction. As mother, daughter and granddaughter of Best and Ruins come together with Jaguar Dragos.Three key players get poisined, beheaded, and strangled. One dreamer dead another injured. Will Eadmond fall prey again to daughter of Miracle & Moranna? Does this make Meena cousin to Evaine?

Grab some popcorn and settle in for a great read!
While the first book of this was a little difficult to get into, this book grabbed me from page one. The author has put together a tale that winds the lives of Jael, Edmund, their families, and their enemies into a beautifully written tapestry that few authors have achieved. You don't want to miss any of the character arcs and each is intertwined in surprising ways. You come to care about what happens to every character. Even the antagonists are so well written that you find yourself caught up in their story. The battle scenes are well researched and written. You will find yourself on the battlefield, or on the ships wondering if your arrows will hit their marks. The last 50 pages or so are non-stop action. Your adrenaline will go into high speed over this intense final battle. It feels like you are watching an action movie watching the climactic scenes. Rayne's novel is a masterclass in the use of imagery. I can't wait to read the book 3!

Great book; Printing issue
I'm half way through this book and I love it. You have to love warrior/battle type books to like it but it's fantastic. There is a printing issue though where page 376 and 377 are out of order. 376 should be 377 and vice versa. It's a small issue but annoying.

Why Why Why????
Why would you purposefully confront your enemy and reveal your intentions!?!? What on Earth do you think when you approach them, without any surety or strength, and blatantly paint a target on your back!!!!???? I loath the character of Edela the absolute most, almost as much as Biddy’s fussing, Axle’s selfishness and Eadmond’s apathy. These are not characters to be fought over or to be admired. The length it takes to get absolutely anything done! With the backwards and forwards walking- the pauses, constant reference to the cold and back-and-forth movement at supposed high points in the novel, are truly maddening.Be brave, stand up, fight for something but it takes almost 50% of the book in getting there or showing any real development.Just such a disappointment. No chemistry even between the leads. This series had a lot more potential.

long books but so good
Sometimes I get frustrated with these books, so many pov and so much happening but so worth it. So many twists and turns. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Another cracker
Another cracking read from A E Rayne this the second in the series is just as good if not better than the first it's full of politics and intrigue set in an excellently created Norse fantasy realm the battle scenes are outstanding and the magic and myth of this world are well created. All the characters are well written and totally believable and you just can't stop turning the pages to see how they all fare. Also with an ending like that I will definitely be reading the in series.

great series but a little long on the suspense
Great book great writer. However, suspense and action are a little too long in the waiting. Seems like the author is trying to fill a lot of pages rather than getting to the full suspense points a little quicker. Nonetheless saw that eight or nine out of 10 for the whole series.
