Especially good for those new to Florida gardening
I enjoy reading this gardening book as I have just recently moved to Florida. I tried to read up on Florida gardening before the move and one comment that kept cropping up was "forget everything you know about gardening". While I wouldn't go that far,it is very, very different. This book fills the void between knowing how to garden and how to properly garden in Florida. The book is laid out nicely by month. Being able to look ahead a few months gives you the opportunity to prepare in advance for what is coming. For example, planting vegetables is pretty straight forward up North, but in Florida you really have to pay attention to when the dry season comes, Same with summer, you don't want to try and grow tomatoes in August here! All in all I would recommend this book. If there was one thing I think could be improved it would be on the publishers end. The binding will take a beating on this book because I will be bending it and generally using it a lot. Would have been better as a spiral bound, but of course that would have increased the price.

A must for the Florida gardener
The absolute best part of this book are the tables at the end that tell you when to plant every type of shrub, flower or vegetable in Florida. Unlike most part of the US wholes planting schedule is primarily a function of first and last freeze dates, Florida growing is a year round cycle. That makes knowing when to plant very complicated, and the tables take all the guesswork out! Of course having a chapter for each month that walks through the important tasks to complete is really great.

Perfect for a novice gardener who is also not a Florida native
Growing up in the PacNW with no desire to grow anything and then buying a few acres in Central Florida and wanting to cultivate it all this book is going to be sanity and cost savings. All the "grow your own" garden books I have purchased go into more depth for "how to" are still needed IMO BUT their timing is completely off for Florida. Pair this book with one of those and watch your green thumbs grow.

A mist have book for home owners
An essential resource for gardeners and home owners in central Florida. It is a one source for for most all of your garden questions and home landscape information. The book is written by a long time Florida Extension agent for Orange County Florida. Mr. MacCubbin has written several books and has clear easy to understand writing style . Even after retiring from the Extension Service he still dispenses essential gardening information for the central Florida gardener and home owner . He writes for the Florida Gardening Magazine and for the local newspaper. I cannot imagining a more knowledgable source about lawns and landscapes for central Florida.

Help for a Northern Gardener, Now in Florida
I am thoroughly enjoying this book. It has answered many questions. Although I moved to Florida, many years ago, 40 to be exact. I had few answers as to what would and would not work in my area of residence Now that I am retired, I am enjoying gardening more fully. I found this volume very valuable.
