Just Works !
All I wanted was a card to add SATA ports, and possibly take advantage of the PCIe 3.0 slot I had on my newer ASRock AMD B450 motherboard. The first card I purchased (completely different brand) wouldn't even let my system boot properly, required 3rd party drivers, and was PCIe 2 1x. So, I was forced to return it, and landed upon this one. This one just worked, in both Windows & Linux. No driver install required, and speed tests yield the same speeds as my motherboard SATA ports, but only about 550MB/S. (No idea if that's good or bad) I plan to use this box in a future freeNAS/UnRaid build, so I wasn't interested in any fancy features or RAID support. Just something simple with native SATA support. The only confusion I had was, the box hi-lights PCIe 2.0 support, and RAID 0-10. I'm thinking the packaging is wrong? Or, it's right, and the advertising material is wrong? Not much else to say, as I've only had the card for 24hrs now. This same card is available from many suppliers, with slightly different prices. I would recommend sticking with IOCREST's variation. I think the firmware is written by the supplier, and so no two cards are the same, even though the hardware is identical. (Or the hardware/JMB585 requires no firmware, and I don't have a clue about what I'm talking about). Just a recommendation though.

Be aware if you intend to use it with Freenas/Truenas.
On the product package there is a image state compatible with freenas. I installed the card with Truenas core 13 u4 and it work for some degree. I install 5 WD gold 2TB on the card and setup raidz1, everything seems fine and I can trasnfer files to the servers fine. However when I look at console I notice a lot of cam status uncorrectable parity /crc errors from all 5 drives. However if i connected the drive to my motherboard sata port there is no error be reported. I look it up it seem the issue is due to chipset use SATA port multipliers which truenas doesn't like.

Causes Windows to freeze and crash with storage spaces. Customer support is non-existent.
I purchased this item to connect 1 extra hard drive that will be used with windows storage spaces, with the idea that 5 ports on this card means I have room for growth.A few weeks after install I started experiencing crashes that I could not pinpoint. After a few weeks of swapping out parts I found that this PCI adapter caused the entire system to freeze and crash during high IO.This continued to get worse until I replaced the adapter with a different model. I have not experienced a crash since. I tried contacting support with my issue thinking it may be a driver, etc. But I was not able to get any response back. Quite disappointed as this product is $70+, I expected more.

Plug and play

Just works - plug and play.
This replaced a cheaper X1 card which had 4 sockets but would only run 2 disks at a time. Apparently it need a driver which wasn't supplied and I couldn't find on line. This X4 card with 5 sockets runs 5 disks simultaneously with no driver required.Includes the most current SATA specs which means it will handle latest HDDs and SSDs. Good transfer speeds - same as drives connected to my top end motherboard.
