Kind of movie you have to buy to watch over and over...
Not just a feel good movie. A beautiful story of friendship, sibling love, family dynamics and a host of other things. Suspenseful until the very end. The only negative is that there was a bit too much going on... The judge's past history. The attorney's medical condition. The sudden and mysterious death of the boyfriend whose is undergoing chemo but whose family is not in the picture. The ethics of genetically engineering a child to save another child's life. A heck of a lot going on yet a beautiful movie nonetheless.

Sad movie about a Mother's refusal to let her cancer ridden daughter go
To me, this movie was a very long set of narrations concerning a daughter, sister and niece dying from cancer. The Mother is a fierce fighter for her care and life. The Father is a silent player in the background until he takes a stand to get his daughter her wish to go to the beach. The Brother is sad for her but obviously loves both of his sisters. Of course, at times his parents are too busy to really focus on him but that is expected. The Doctor plays a great part. He is real, kind and compassionate. I liked his part the best. Many different people narrate and to me, that was a pleasant part of the movie. There are many flashbacks but I had no problem following. The girl that played the part of Kate needs an Oscar, she was great but scary at the end. It is crazy what sickness, specifically Cancer does to the body. There is a secret going on here as to why the youngest child is seeking Medical Emancipation and why the Attorney is helping the little girl. There are many very sweet scenes, some scary, some very sad, some that seem contrived just to get an emotional reaction from the viewer. This is a vision from a writer and I respect her right to write as she believes. The movie was screen written and produced, I guess to give the viewer a glimpse of what it is like to be involved with a very sick child. The thing I did not like is how uninformed the characters were about death, sickness and suffering and what their true reason and purpose is as laid out in the Holy Bible. There are no prayers offered, no Chapel scenes in the hospital, no Chaplains to comfort people. Several comments by the youngest character would leave the viewer who does not know any different, that life just ends. No good comes from suffering. As a Christian who has lost many loved ones and suffered many years from chronic pain and health issues, I myself studied all of these issues from Genesis to Revelation and put my entire life in the hands of Jesus Christ for answers, guidance, healing and I have never regretted it since. I have peace about death, suffering and sickness now and live to help others too, if they want it. I did not like that part. However some may say that this is not a religious movie. Fair enough but in reality we simply can not and should not leave God out of the equation. We all have so many opportunities to make an impact in the lives of people suffering and to inspire, encourage, educate and influence people to see these issues with a Godly perspective that leaves us with hope we WILL see our loved ones again, there is purpose in pain, there is life beyond cancer and death for the surviving family members. I made a choice to believe. I made a choice to pray for help. I hope that viewers will consider this message of hope and this perspective that is to far too many people, becoming more and more ridiculous but is needed in our society, where so many are moving away from faith and hope beyond what we can see and know. That is what faith is. Believing in what you do not see and understand and choosing to believe. God will give His children enough Faith and hope to trust Him. I did think Cameron Diaz did a great job of portraying the writers vision of a Mother torn up to pieces and emotional beyond her control at seeing her daughter go through this tragedy. Good effort by all. Glad I viewed this movie. It made me thankful for the faith I have that grounded me through many losses and now as I watch my own two daughters suffer through health issues but who still laugh, sing, dance and hum anyway. All people die! To me it is how you live and this girl tried to live through her sickness with love, humor and hope. She simply wanted her suffering to end but her Mother refused to let her go. I do not fault her much though. Seeing many pictures of that cute little girl at the end of the movie and knowing how these precious children are a gift and how sweet they can be and steal our hearts really drove home why the Mom would not, or could not let the child go. God bless fellow viewers. Don't let your emotions and feelings about this movie get you down or depress you. Watch with an open mind. Learn something from the movie. Probably most likely learn to take life one day at a time, enjoy your life, praise God for it and hold your babies and family close and just love them through all hardships!

My Sister's Keeper
Like other reviewers, I watched this after reading the book. I have been putting off watching it for a while because I knew it would be sad, and made the mistake of finally watching it when I was feeling emotional. The storyline is emotive, and I was drawn in quickly, although some of the characters were not as developed as they could have been, and may leave people not knowing their story in the book confused, and those who do disappointed. I was not expecting to like Alec Baldwin as the lawyer, but I thought he did do a good job, although his part was not as big as it was in the book, and I would have liked to see the humour of his various made-up reasons for having a service dog.The young actors in film were all very well played, and I particularly enjoyed the relationship Kate had with another patient.I did spend the last 30 minutes of the film crying, although my tears stopped abruptly at the end of the film when I realised it had been changed completely from the ending of the book. This did make me angry, because it felt like the entire 'point' of the book was missing. Had this film been under another name, I would have given it 5 stars. As it is, I have given it 2 for the acting and the emotion, but in general I am disappointed by this film.

Not totally honest!
I read the book, my 14yr old and 18yr old daughters read the book! Heartbreaking, wonderful, beautiful, gripping! So when the film was made, we obviously wanted to see it. But NOT at the cinema - couldn't let everyone hear and see us all blubbing at the screen! So long-awaited DVD arrives, I sit down with my 14yr old with popcorn and tissues and we count how many times we get tearfull. My daughter about 20, me about the same - mother thinking of her daughter, daughter thinking of her sister - couldn't expect much else! We loved the film. Well-acted, cringey in the right sort of way, and kept to the story really well ... except when it came to the end! Oh the disappointment! My daughter was furious that the ending changed. I cried at the ending, but was still rather annoyed that the directors felt the audience wouldn't be able to cope with the original storyline ending! If you've read the book you will be aware of the twist at the end of the story - and what a brilliant twist, but that doesn't happen - just the EXPECTED happens and that's a little disappointing when you've loved Jodi Piccoult's novel, ALL of it, right til the end! Still, if you haven't read the book, you won't be disappointed - it delivers everything you expect from such a tear-jerking, emotional, sadly often true story. Watch it!

this movie's a keeper
Made me cry so much, absolutely loved it. There's kinda a plot twist thing at the end and my friend and I were in absolute shreds of tears at that point. It touched my heart and I would really, really, really recommend it. It honestly will change your outlook on life and make you appreciate everything you have.Sounds cliche but I honestly love this movie so much

A beautiful story, keep the tissues close by!
I bought this film, knowing nothing about the film, only that it was directored by Nick Cassavestes, who also directored "The Notebook".It's a beautiful story, showing a tale of deep human emotion in an inspirisng film about a loving family challenged - and united - by a child's illness (okay, I got that bit of info off of the back of the DVD, but it is exactly that, I couldn't have put it any better, so why not use the description provided with the movie!!!).I won't go in to detail, I don't want to spoil it for you, but I do highly recommend this film, it does pull at those heartstrings.Be warned, keep a few tissues ready for the ending!!Hope that helps! :o)

I enjoyed the film and I did cry at the end
I enjoyed the film and I did cry at the end. The performances were very good especially the actress who played the sick sister. I cannot say to watch or not as I do know there are many who loved the book but may be disappointed in the film. The film changes some things that are in the book. If you have not read the book you more than likely will enjoy the movie. I am sorry I cannot explain it any better than that.
