Topical Ointment for Animals (8 Ounces)

New formula has a better scent!
None of the other balms or ointments work as well as this one. Our dog is a pit mix, and she gets to licking her paws and groin area, and this stuff works pretty quickly to get rid of the red and dry areas. It heals and moisturizes her skin and prevents it from getting more inflamed or infected. We were worried about how safe it was since she does lick at it sometimes. Good news is we've using this for a year (just re-ordered another) and she hasn't died or shown signs of acute poisoning, so that's the upside! The packaging on this one is different, and it seems like they added some scent oils, which is nice. Seems to also have a more buttery consistency (although we may have gotten the previous one after it melted en route). The old version had a pretty intense sulfur smell, but we put up with it because it really has worked wonders. It's lard based, so try and keep it from getting too warm. Once it melts it never really regains its original texture, and is a little trickier to put on, but still works great either way. Again it's pretty greasy and smelly, so make sure your pet isn't rubbing itself on your nice furniture right after.

Took awhile BUT fur grew back!
Noticed a bald spot on my poodle's hind leg back in February. Had tried hot spot treatments and by June skin was not irritated but still without fur. I went through Amazon to find something, and got this jar of magic. I applied it everyday for a week and then whenever I could, it is November now and the fur has grown back! Quite pleased with the result and yes it smells bad, like mellow rotten eggs?

Smells Horrible, Works Wonders!!!
My poor doggie Agnes has been plagued by itchy skin infections that have caused her hair to fall out in patches. The skin beneath is red and irritated, and it’s not hard to tell she’s been constantly uncomfortable. I’ve tried all kinds of shampoos, topical products, and even started her on a sensitive skin diet. Many of these things have provided temporary relief and the diet will likely be beneficial in the long run, but nothing has actually improved her condition... until we tried this! I had my doubts - it smells disgusting and the animal fat base (which caught me by surprise) feels like extra-greasy butter. It doesn’t really rub in, so I just slathered it all over my dog. I thought one benefit of the ointment’s awful smell would be that Agnes wouldn’t lick it off, but she still thinks it’s appetizing. Luckily, she can’t reach the worst spots on her neck and chest, and in just a few days I’ve seen amazing improvement! My dog’s skin is no longer blazing red and she’s not scratching nearly as much. She’s got the spring back in her step, I think because she’s able to sleep better now that she’s not so uncomfortable. She stinks and I’m beginning to believe my hands will forever smell of lardy pine tar, but I’m so grateful this stuff truly works.

Not more households with more than one dog
I just got the product from Amazon today. Right on the jar it says harmful if ingested. I have 2 dogs. The one won’t leave the other’s wound alone. I will have to find a way to cover it or not use this product. Disappointed .Update: I tried this for a month, applying it and covering with gauze. No improvement. I recently changed to a chlorhexidine gel for hot spots on dogs, which is working. I am also using a canine Microsyn spray to help prevent itching, which is also working.

Use with caution
I bought this for my boxer whose ears are very dry and cracked on the tips, I read several recommendations while researching this problem. I applied daily for about 5 days and by then her ears were swollen and red. I clean everything off and about 24 hours later the swelling and redness were gone and her dry ears were noticeably improved and the hair was starting to grow back. I haven't used since but may try using again less frequently if needed. Just be careful because this is strong stuff if you have an animal with sensitive skin. And, it smells awful!

FANTASTIC PRODUCT!
My dog had an infection in both front paws and the Vets were stumped. Antibiotics didn’t help him either. A friend recommended this product and it’s been 4 weeks since we started using daily and we not only can see the difference, our dog ( who is a 9 year old lemon beagle) has begun to walk much better and is becoming more playful.

Disappointing
I got this for my 15 year old dog who has warts on her skin from being on steriods. I was very disappointed that it did nothing to reduce their size or help them go away.
