Beautiful book with an exceptional collection of gifted writers and storytellers!
Great experience and wonderful transaction with the bookseller. Buying used books can be tricky to say the least, especially when the condition of a 20 year old book is highly subjective. Regardless, my experience w/ this particular seller was exceptional. The book arrived quickly, was signed and in "like new" condition as described and was neatly wrapped in brown paper. Thank you! Wonderful experience. The book itself is a matter of pure taste. If you like noir, the concept of the femme fatales and the dark ironic shadow of fatalism ... you'll LOVE this book. It's comprised of what I call master storytellers who are the best in their class. From the very first story written by Ed McBain (must read his book, The Gutter and the Grave published by Hard Case Crime), to a beautiful short story w/ Harry Bosch titled, Cielo Azul by the incomparable Michael Connelly and so many more. There is something for everyone in this book and the voices of the well-developed, characters seem to leap, or should I say bleed off the page. Either way, if you're a fan of true crime and noir-style writing you'd be remiss not to add this literary gem to your collection.

Overall? Trite and derivative
With a few exceptions, I am disappointed in this collection of shorts. Great concept but what a bunch of lousy submissions apart from Jeffery Deaver's 'Born Bad'. The book is worth it just for this story.Did these, for the most part well known and highly regarded writers, do a quickie favor for the editor? It would appear so. The average reader will be able to guess at the ending about a paragraph into the story. Second, the "dangerous women" seem to be stuck on sadism against men originating in lack of or too much of - you got it, sex. And finally, apart from one or two selections, the shorts derive their plot line from mainly noirish elements...cops, tough guys...bleak urban landscapes, and yes...dangerous femmes fatales...give me a break. You want dangerous women? See Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity or read the novel by James Cain.

Dangerous Women
Saw "Dangerous Women" short stories listed on Nelson Demille site. Was excited to see many of my favorite authors listed; Dever, M Connelly, DeMille(of course)...thought it was good chance to brief on other's style, etc.Good 'bathroom read'...if you are a guy.

One of the best collection of short stories by some of the masters of the genre. Each story is wilder than the other & I have not found one that was not pure gold.

Very enjoyable.
A very enjoyable collection of short stories about powerful women, with many unexpected turns. Penzler has good curatorial skills.

Her Lord and Master
The book is well worth buying just to read in it “Her Lord and Master” by Andrew Klavan.

Just finished this book-I didn't like all the stories but some were so good it made up for the ones I didn't like-All in all its still a good read and I would recommend this book. Titled Dangerous Women but its mostly about the dirt bag men in their lives.
