Scary Stuff!
This is a top-notch medical thriller about a "real-life" disease and how Dr. Danny Tilson and a team of specialists from the CDC race against time to stop an outbreak from becoming a horrifying pandemic.First off, this kind of fiction really gives me the willies. The disease culprits are real and the outcome, frightening beyond belief. It makes me applaud the medical community for their efforts to combat disease and infection through hard work, dedication and the underlying fear of contracting the disease themselves. Bravo!POSITIVES- This doctor proves herself to be a very good author. The editing is spot on and her expertize in the medical field- how doctors view their patients- how their private lives and commitments must sometimes take a back burner, and how fear (whether for themselves or their patients) must be dealt with every day- shines through the plot-line. Great job at ratcheting up the tension!NEGATIVES- My only beef with this story is that there were actually TWO stories going on at once. Dr. Tilson's infant daughter is being abused and Dr Danny must stop everything to deal with this issue, as well as try to save the world from disaster. Not to say that life doesn't march along while doctors are busy trying to stop a pandemic, but it felt like each story had huge weight and deserved a whole book rather than both important issues sharing space within the story ark. Also, there was such a sinister undertone to the plot-line, I started viewing almost EVERYONE with suspicion--- a new doc that was hired- even the beloved new brother-in-law. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but it certainly cast a murky atmosphere through-out the already dark principal story. (Perhaps these characters are being introduced as follow-ups in this series?)All in all, however, a very good medical thriller that's guaranteed to keep you up at night! 5 Stars!

dr Danny saves the day
Cases of unknown illnesses keep showing up at the hospital. Doctors were stumped for a treatment. After testing many causes they finally came up with a treatment that would save lives. Interesting read

~~Medical Mystery/Suspense/Thriller..~~
It is indeed a little ironic that I started reading this when an outbreak of the coronavirus appeared in China. In this one, however, it is an outbreak of meningitis which is creating deaths and many questions....including the reason that Dr. Danny Tilson has not been affected by it....The medical mystery definitely contributed to the plot and the suspense was evident throughout. The CDC was called in and also offered support with a Neurologist and an Infectious Disease Specialist. There are multiple twists and turns which will keep the reader flipping the pages. Characters are well developed and the plot line solid. One thing I also appreciated is the medical expertise of the author. As a reader...even in a novel....I like to know there is a factual basis for the plot, etc. Will read more by this author and have her on 'follow' now so I won't miss another one. Most highly recommended.

Better and better!
I've really enjoyed all of Barbara Ebel's books, but this is the best yet. Lots going on, both professionally and personally. I've got one more in the Dr. Danny Tilson series. I can't wait.

Progressing with the series
The story of Danny, Casey, Mary, Sara, the girls, Julia and the go-getting Rachel continues in this second book, which concerns an epidemic of a truly fatal disease. I wondered about this one because being cured by dog saliva sounded to me like a fictional cure, but apparently not.I didn't have so much sympathy for Danny this time, as he should have reported Julia's injuries to the authorities himself rather just to his lawyer. I would have expected that Rachel would have been censured by the police and courts. However, Dakota was undoubtedly the hero of the piece and as I always love to see an animal in pride of place that made it satisfactory. The wedding was good, but one thing I think was missing in this was getting to know Sara. I know this is primarily Danny's story, but Sara seems to be remarkably passive in her acceptance of Danny's re-emergence into her life. Apart from the backstory in Book 1, there is little Sara's reactions to Danny's bad behaviour.Overall, I liked the story - I had several hours to fill with my injured tootsie held higher than my head - so finished it and am now into the third in the series. Reporting back tomorrow!

good read
Liked this book = good medical mystery with some human interest - I enjoyed the one before it, too. She can make you like someone who is really messing up and then turn out ok. I think I will read this author again.
