Great music stand; compact, sturdy, simple
This is the first music stand that I've owned, and I've only used a handful of others in my lessons. I needed a simple, and compact music stand and this meets all of those needs.Assembly:The stand comes in three pieces; the tripod base, an extension tube that fits into the tripod and the bookplate. All of the pieces fit together well, and once you've locked the extension in place, the entire assembly is sturdy. The friction locking clutch works well and doesn't appear to be bending or pinching the extension tube too much. The locking mechanism is at the top of the tripod shaft; if you have the extension all the way down, the bookplate may not be able to slide onto the top of the extension shaft. If this happens, just release the lock and rotate the extension to point away from the locking handle. The tripod legs are capped with rubber feet which keeps the stand in place and is sufficient to protect my laminate flooring.Storage:Putting the assembly away is almost as quick as putting it together. Pull all of the pieces apart, fold the bookplate and collapse the tripod legs. The legs take a little work to get them out of their extended position, and it feels like you could torque these if you just tried to pull one all the way. I work each leg a little, and once the collar starts moving, then it will fully collapse easily. Just be careful getting it started. The assembly comes with a blue carrying case and a clear plastic bag inside of that. I am continuing to use the plastic bag and the carrying case; some of the edges are a little sharp and sliding in and out could tear the blue bag eventually. Everything folds together well, so it all fits, and using the plastic will make the blue bag last longer. One thing I've started doing, to make the assembly and storage quicker is to leave the extension tube inside the tripod shaft. Instead of removing it, I push it all the way in and then lock it in place. This ends up being just a little too long for the blue bag's Velcro strap to fully close, but for sitting in my library that's not a big deal.Overall:Overall, this stand works great. There are two minor drawbacks. First, the tripod legs take a little careful attention to fold back for storage. Second, the bookplate does not form a flat surface when fully unfolded. The two sides still have a shallow angle which causes two pieces of paper to lean toward each other and a book to sit a little awkwardly. Neither of these are worrisome or a great inconvenience, just something to note. For the price and for how small this is when it is folded and stored, it is a great music stand.

On Stage Stands brand
Didn't know what to expect for a $10 stand. Then, you do have to pay $5+ dollars shipping too so not really $10. Regardless the stand is built very well and I've never had problems with On-Stage products. We've gone through a lot of this type of music stands in our band of 35 years and this is the best built of this type.

Great... If you're not too tall
I used to play the violin 20 years ago when I was part of an orchestra. Back then I used my stand while practicing sitting or standing; however, it rusted and I needed a new one. This one is great: it's black, portable, and comes with a traveler bag (beware, it may develop a tear/rip if you "drop" the metal stand back in). Now, I mainly practice standing and it's just perfect for my height (5 feet). If you're taller than me (which most people are) and will be practicing standing, it may not reach to your desired level. There is only one segment that is height adjustable versus some other ones (like my old silver one where it was adjustable in two segments).I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for the quality of the traveler bag and limit to the height adjustment.

Perfect!!
This is exactly what we needed for my beginner sax player. I was quite excited for it's arrival and it came very fast. I am disappointed though in the packaging. I will leave seller feedback. The box it was shipped in was the original packaging for the stand itself, it had no box over it, no protection. The box was quite crunched and I was very worried about the music stand itself. Fortunately upon inspection, the stand is fine, the only damage is to the carrying care and there is a tiny hole on the top of the Velcro flap. Other than packaging the product better, I really have no other complaints. I love that there are clips to hold your music down. I love that the stand is collapsible and comes with the carrying case. Great product, just needs better, more protective packaging.

Wonderful flute stand, very pretty and sturdy.
I received my flute stand in excellent condition. The stand comes in two pieces that fit nicely into the carrying case.I had read some reviews on the product and noticed that some reviewers mentioned that theirs were hard to open and close as well as heavy. I have had neither experience. Both pieces open and close very smooth and it is very easy to assemble. The product is very light weight, hardly heavier than a small umbrella. The book holder can accommodate a 1 inch binder full of music. When I purchased this I was concerned it wouldn't be tall enough for me to play standing being almost 6ft tall. The stand is however tall enough for me to read comfortably from sitting or standing. I use this for reading music as I play flute and I love it! Wonderful Price and High Quality Product!

Cheap design to go along with cheap price
Unfortunately you get what you pay for. This stand is quite functional, and I would say that if you're looking for a cheap option, go ahead and get it, but there are a lot of little design flaws that you'll have to deal with. It's not quite tall enough for me (6'), even when extended fully. The ledge that the music rests on never quite opens all the way up flat, so the music often only touches in two places, and is more likely to fall off. The angle of the music is fixed, and it's a little too far back for my taste (subject, I know, but just so you're aware). And finally, the extension often gets stuck, and I have to use my leatherman to pull it out of the base (frustrating when I don't have my leatherman, and I can't get it out!)I did appreciate the carrying bag, and it's relatively light, and like I said, for the price, it's not a terrible value. But next time I'm getting a different stand.
