Nice beginner drone (when Altitude Hold works)
I bought this as a first drone after reading many reviews and watching numerous YouTube videos. I opted for the 510W (WiFi FPV) over the 510G (5.8Ghz FPV monitor) because FPV is not that important right now. Then there’s the price difference between the two. Overall it’s a great flyer when Altitude Hold works (I’ll get into that shortly) and it just looks awesome in the air.The FPV capabilities are nice and the fact that the drone can be controlled from a cell phone, notepad or tablet device via WiFi are pretty cool, but FPV is not a big priority for me. This being the case I removed the camera (only a .3 megapixel camera on the W version vs. a 2.0 Megapixel on the G version). I then discovered that I get about a minute to a minute and a half of extra flight time from the provided 600mah 3.7v battery. Prior fight times were between 5 and 6 minutes. I don’t know if this is due to increased aerodynamics, weight loss (the camera basically weighs nothing) or the lack of battery drain from supplying power to the camera even when not in use.Now for the Altitude Hold feature. As previously mentioned, when it works it’s great. It makes the drone very easy to control for a beginner like myself. But there have been times after bringing the drone to the desired flight level and releasing the throttle (per the instructions that’s all that’s needed) the drone would keep rising. Then it wouldn’t come back down when the throttle stick was lowered. Or if lowering the throttle stick did bring the drone back down, after releasing the throttle to set the new desired flight level, the drone would start rising again. On more than a few occasions I’ve had to use the emergency cut off procedure (simultaneously pushing both control sticks to the lower outside position) to drop the drone out of the sky to keep it from getting away from me. This has resulted in cracked or broken prop guards and landing skids (now splinted with toothpicks and superglue until the replacement parts I’ve ordered come in). I don’t know if it has anything to do with my starting elevation. The onboard electronics use an air pressure sensor to set the flight level and I live at an altitude that’s more than 5000ft above sea level. So the air here is much thinner and air pressure is lower to start with. But since getting the drone I’ve read reviews where other people have mentioned similar issues. So again I’m not sure if the issues I’ve experienced are related to some kind of weird quirk in the air pressure sensor or the altitude where I live.In general I love this drone when everything works. It looks great in the air and is a ton of fun to fly. All things considered, the altitude hold is the only reason for the 3 star rating. If this one feature worked all the time, I’d definitely be giving 5 stars.

great gift item
purchased for a gift he loved it...for your first flight, make sure to go into an open field before testing it out. My husband wasn't familiar with all the controls and it went into a tall pine tree and he had a heck of a time retrieving it. He won't do that again! Very durable though...it came out of the tree without a scratch!

One Star
Worked nice for maybe a week then it wouldn't fly more than three feet off the ground........

The JXD510W FPV Quadcopter - Lots of Style. She's Stable, Easy to fly, and JXD has Added Value by including Bonus Features.
This is a review for the JXD510W X-Predators quadcopter from Amazon seller Blomiky Blomiky JXD 510W FPV X-predators WIFI 0.3MP Camera RC Quadcopter High Hold Mode RC Drone Extra 1 Battery 510W If you find this review helpful in any way, please click on YES below. I spent many hours testing and reviewing the JXD510W and know it well now. In the video review, you will see it fly and hear my opinions about it. But I can tell you this new version has some nice features such as altitude hold and Wifi PFV using the camera on the quadcopter and your cell phone with an app as the monitor. In my photos you will see everything from the initial box opening to all that is included. The video review includes lots of flying and testing of features such as one key return, auto landing with the stop button, doing flips, and info on how well the controller stays connected with the JXD510W at considerable distance.* ASSEMBLY – As with most toy quadcopters is fairly straightforward. If you are a beginner have no fear, you can probably put this copter together easily. It comes with two little screwdrivers, and they work well to screw in the included propeller guards, landing gear, and holder that mounts on the controller for phone to use FPV.* BATTERIES and FLIGHT TIME– Included in the package is a 600mah 3.7v battery stored inside the quadcopter’s battery compartment (unplugged), and another larger 800mah battery is also included in the package if purchased with the bonus battery. I got anywhere from 6-9 minutes flying with each of these batteries, depending on the type of use. If you do a lot of flips, or use FPV a lot, then you can expect the amount of flight time to diminish. It works out well though with two batteries, because you can let the brushed motors cool down for a while after you run out of juice. Charge the two batteries up for an hour or so, and then get back to it! If you want more flight time, you can always purchase more batteries. One small negative is that the battery compartment door seems a little flimsy, but it did not break after many flights and battery changes. It's slightly difficult to get the battery in and out each time because space is pretty tight, and the cable could be longer.* BATTERY WEIGHT - The larger capacity battery weighs more, but the JXD510W flies about the same with either battery.* LIGHTING - The lighting on the JXD510W is just adequate. The four lights could definitely be bigger and brighter such as the lights on some competing models. The lights are a little difficult to see on bright sunny days, but are fine for dawn and dusk and night flying.* FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS – As you will see and hear in the video review, the main thing that impressed me about the JXD is how stable it flew when using altitude hold (letting the left joystick stay in center after you fly to the height you want to stay at.) It flies, yaws, and turns very predictably. No hype included in that statement. She’s a Stable Flier. I hate to say it, but its Altitude Hold is better in stability than my beloved SYMA X5HW model with altitude hold. * This is a very light quadcopter, so winds of 5mph or more do effect how it flies.* SPEED MODES – This quadcopter has 3 speed modes. You can toggle between the modes by pressing the button on the left rear of the controller. The slower mode is decent but not challenging or much fun unless you are a true beginner. It may be good for steadiness while taking videos or single shots with the on board camera (on windless days.) The third speed is the most fun for me.* HEADLESS MODE – As with most competing models, the JXD510W has Headless Mode. Just press the button labeled Headless Mode and you will hear a series of Beep Beep Beeps and then it will be in Headless Mode. Pressing and holding the same button again makes it go back to normal mode. To put it simply, this mode is great for beginners because it makes it so you don't have to worry about orientation (the front of the copter). It's best to try both modes, but as you learn to fly skillfully, you will probably gravitate to using the normal mode.* ALTITUDE HOLD – As mentioned – You activate it by returning the left joystick to the middle position. It is spring loaded so really, if you just let it spring to the middle...that is your altitude hold. You’ll see on the video that the altitude hold of the JXD510W is STELLAR!* RANGE – I tested the JXD510W out to about 200 yards (over 180 meters) and at least 100-150 feet in altitude. I wasn’t comfortable going further than that, but did not experience any loss of control at those distances.* A KEY RETURN – This is really one key return, and if you line the quadcopter fairly in line with where it took off it works well. There is no GPS, so this is a limited function, but it’s nice to have if the quad is straight in front of you out a long way and you want to make it head back on its own.* TURN – This is basically a FLIP button. I warn you to make sure it is not windy outside, and that you have the quad up at least 40-50 feet high before doing it. Do not hold the button too long, or it will do multiple flips. If you do this and are flipping downward, the ground will come quickly!* BUTTONS THAT HAVE NO FUNCTION – I think the JXD510W must share a controller with a higher end model, because although there are buttons labeled LIGHT, PHOTO, and VIDEO, they do not seem to do anything.* FPV – This model uses the app called Exploration UFO. It’s a straightforward app that can downloaded for free from the Apple App store for Apple devices or Google Play store for Android devices. The program is nice and allows you not only to watch and record the FPV feed, but you can also take pictures and do other things. One feature I hadn't seen before is the ability to stop, start, and fly the quadcopter using the phone as a controller. I tried this using my iPhone and everything worked perfectly. Nice Feature! * FIRST IMPRESSIONS – I was excited to hear that I would be getting this quadcopter in exchange for an honest review good or bad. I have made many purchases on Amazon pretty much solely based on other people’s experiences, and I will tell it like it is. I had recently purchased a SYMA X5HW, which is direct competition for the JXD510W. Flight characteristics are similar, and each model has great things a few nit picky not so great things about how they are designed and fly. The SYMA seems bullet proof as I have crashed it many a time, and those motors are legendary for toughness and durability. But so far the JXD seems able to handle crashes well, and the brushed motors are also strong enough for a small quad. When it comes to stability in flight and hover, the proof is in the video and you can see exactly how steady this bird flies. Check it out! As a reminder - If you found this review helpful in any way, please click on YES. I spent many hours testing and reviewing the JXD510W and would appreciate it if it was helpful to you in some way. Thanks much! Happy Flyin' :) Willy C

Wont generate more than 5' of lift
Looks really nice, but can't get it more than 5' of lift. Even on full battery charge from either battery
