Painless American Government (Barron's Painless)

I’ve used this book in homeschool for two high school students. My son with ADHD excelled with Painless Government. The information is in small bites, easily understood and interesting. I’m currently using it as a high school course for a reluctant student. Because the information is in small bits and then just a few questions, it gives the student the necessary course material for graduation.

Painless American Government (Painless Series) ...I purchased Painless Earth Science, History, Study Techniques, Grammar, Life Science, American Government, Spelling, Pre-Algebra, & Geometry for my daughter to help prepare her for high school. She hated me for weeks, but this series has tremendously helped her with her transition from middle school to an advanced magnet academy for high school. These books are one of the best educational tools I have ever purchased. By week 2 she was excited to show me what she had learned each day. We will fortunately be using these for my son when he is old enough to use them.

I got this for my seven years old daughter who has been asking a lot of political questions, due to the news. Sure we could look stuff up online but I was hoping she'd take it and run with it. For now, she is using it as a reference source. It makes it painless to dig for information and easily answer a question. Maybe someday she'll read it straight through. ;-) In the meantime, its fun to hear my little news-junkie use "oligarchy" properly in a sentence.

This book is painless. Using it for homeschool government for 9th grader and I am enjoying reading through it with her. I plan to use it for my 7th grader too!

It's very straight forward. No frills, but it has plenty of additional projects to use to enhance each section. In researching the book, I saw it listed as a high school book, but the back of the book states it's geared towards middle school. We used it for high school anyway and it worked out fine. My homeschool student liked the format.

I bought this to read so I can learn more about the US government as well as help my 9th grade daughter. This book covers the essentials without being weighed down by too much detail. This enables the reader to keep focused on the big picture concepts and more important facts. It's fun to read. Little tests throughout the text provide an entertaining way to check your knowledge.

I was severely disappointed by this book. I could not believe that it focused government on the protection of the minority over the majority. A Democracy is a majority rule. A Republic is NOT a Democracy in any form. The point of a majority vote is that the majority vote wins not the minority, yet this author seems to think the minority is more important than the majority, and that Democracy has something to do with protecting the minority. I think he does not understand our government at all. The Republic is set up to help protect rights and restrain evil, where Democracy is set up to allow majority rule which failed in Greece thousands of years ago, and in Rome where the people abandoned the Republic rule in favor of a majority or Democracy rule, much like America is doing today. History repeats itself through fools like this rewriting and teaching our children falsely so we do not remember what has happened before and fall into the same traps over and over. 中学生対象のアメリカの政府や選挙の仕組みなどの参考書ですね。日本で言う易しい政治みたいな感じです。政治や政党について説明しているのではありません。英語は難しくけど、知らない単語は結構あります。もう少し政治や社会の単語を覚えたい人にはちょうどいいと思います。英検1級を目指す人や社会人や大学生で政治用語を覚えたいにもちょうどいい感じです。単語帳などよりは関連語がまとまっているし、興味を持って読めるのではないのでしょうか。内容も中学生向けなので、あまり時間を掛けず読めると思います。重要語句は赤くなっていて、適度に確認の問題演習が入るので上手く覚えて行けます。あとはこのホームページも見てみようみたいな参考もあります。ただ発行が2004年で情報が少し古いので、最新版が出て欲しいです。
