I grew up with my Grandparents, who formerly showed St. Bernards; one thing that they impressed upon me as a dog owner is to always have a quality leather leash! According to my Grandmother, they only get better with age and are much easier to grasp and control than a chain or nylon leash. So I seven years ago I purchased this exact leather leash for our first dog (20# Cur). I haven't been disappointed! I've walked her in rain, snow, and sun...she's been wading in water and the leash has been drenched, and it is still pliable and sturdy, without any additional maintenance from me. So when we started training our newest family member, I searched my Amazon list to find THIS leash to purchase again. What I received was the same leash, minus about 1.5 inches, just a little darker in color. It is still the same great quality workmanship in stitching and riveting. My old leash has never had failure with the latch, and the new leash seems to be the same rugged quality. I look forward to many years of use. My Grandparents were right, by the way - - there is nothing like a leather leash for handling and control! (Photo shows the difference in length, but I struggled to get the new leash to lay flat.)

Nice and strong, feels smooth and comfortable in your hand. Good leash for a medium size dog and up.. especially for dogs that like to Pull.

I even surprised myself repurchasing the same leash. After 1 and 1/2 year of my Pitbull pulling, the leash still feels and looks like new. Buckles are still in tact, leather is not ripping apart. Getting another one for my other pittie; supposedly leather leash helps a lot with walking active dog. Thank God for this leather leash. Nylon leashes always tear my hands apart.

I was skeptical when I saw that this leash was made is China, but I have had it for about two years now and been very pleased with it. The leather has held up wonderfully, no cracks, dryness, splits, and the stitching is still in perfect condition (compared to other leashes I've had where the stitching unravels over time). The leather is soft and supple, very comfortable, and has a nice amount of "give" when the dog pulls, so that your arm doesn't get yanked too hard, but still allows for complete control. The hardware has held up well, also, no rust or apparent weakness. My dog is a medium sized dog and not a hard puller so she isn't as hard on a leash as some dogs might be, but I am very pleased with this leash and expect that it may very well be the only leash that I will ever need to buy for my dog!

The leather used on this dog leash is less than stellar, with deep grain and irregular cutting. The 5/8" wide is dual stitched but there is quite a bit of looseness in the stitching right put of the box, allowing the stitched loops to open significantly when pulled, it will only get worse. The leash if fairly stiff out of the box. Returning this low grade leash.

I was ready to be disappointed, considering the surprisingly low price... but the other reviews were right- this is an EXCELLENT lead. Well made, sturdy, and already softened to make it comfortable in the hand. The hardware was heavier/larger than i anticipated, but my dog will grow into it just fine. My concern was having a 6 foot lead that could handle a long life of use and stay SECURE, and that's what i received. Very pleased, and also the unexpected little gift they included was a lovely treat. Thank you!

Stan my Border terrier just loves it. It really matches his choclate brown gateway's to his soul. I'm sure he would've preferred a pink one but he needs to learn he's not a bitch and is all dog. The lead is very strong which is needed to prize him away from other boy dogs.
