Includes great essay by John Morthland
Except for "Where Did Our Love Go" and the Temptations collaboration "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me," the Time-Life Supremes collection THE SUPREMES: 1963-1969 includes every hit song most fans would expect. While this C.D. is one of many Supremes repackages, it's noteworthy for its accompanying booklet essay by music writer John Morthland. The author's take on the Supremes story stands apart from the sanitization and hyperbole one often sees in these greatest hits C.D. write-ups. Mr. Morthland recollects Florence Ballard's responsibility in the Supremes' success and the unjust desserts with which she wound up. Noting the decline in the quality of the Supremes' music without Ms. Ballard and the songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland, the author reminds us a group divided against itself cannot chart.THE SUPREMES: 1963-1969 booklet also includes a discography listing songwriting credits and the highest weekly position each single reached in BILLBOARD magazine.Unless you have to have "Where Did Our Love Go" and "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me," Time-Life's THE SUPREMES: 1963-1969 is the Supremes hits C.D. to own.
