The practicality of this tool makes me wonder how I ever got by all these years without a spooler with a built-in reel handle! Great for removing or adding lines... unless the spool has a larger radius than the space between the spindle and base; or a small diameter center hole (like fly line spools). The rotor needs a taller stand-off from the base to accommodate spools with a larger diameter (like fly line spools).Also, the gears that drive the spindle mesh loosely so it's not a reel-quality experience, but that is minor since we're not actually fishing with it. The anti-backlash styled tension knob is barely functional but thoughtful.UPDATE: In order to accommodate fly line spools, I added the extender and overhung the spool off the edge of the table and drilled a bigger hole in the spool and it worked ok, although the reel handle was a little cramped against the table top and the spool is now not usable in fly spool tools. So there is a way to use fly line spools for those who McGiver things.In summary, it's not an heirloom piece but it gets the job done with some quirks. At $25 I would call it a bargain but I paid $40 so I expected less grumbly gears and ability to accommodate larger spools with a higher standoff from the base.

I really don’t know if this works good or not personally. Was given to an old friend as a birthday gift. From out of state, He said it works. I’m taking his word for it.

Do not, repeat, do not buy! Plastic gears, increble sloppy tolerances and weak frame makes this item the biggest pos I have bought from Amazon. I have it on my dresser to remind myself what trash is truly out there to buy. Other reviews gave this item 4 and 5 stars, either they were given this item for a great review or they have no idea what it is suppose to do. Go ahead and buy it, you'll find for yourself like I did

I really wanted this to do a good job. It just doesn't. The biggest problem I have with this is the lack of adjustment. You cannot get this line winder to produce enough tension to spool your reels up properly. This is due to flawed design and sub par manufacturing materials. Try a different line spooler. This one will leave you wanting.

I am pleased with this order. It came very timely, and is very easy to use. I am not really using it for what it is intended for, but it suits my needs and was definitely worth the purchase.
