The total length of the scoop is about 12 inches, the length of the scoop without the handle is 8.75 inches.

No, mine was to size as described.

If you are referring to 1/8" to 1/4" inch size stones; yes it will work just fine. I been using it to transfer activated carbon granules and resin bits for industrial equipment in resin tanks. It is a heavy duty scoop.
