Canal Toys So DIY Sand Satisfying Sand Studio

Kids generally like anything that's dough, slime or 'sand'. It's not really sand, but the table-top type of magical sand. It's been trendy among the toy market for several years now. Instead of just a few toys to do a beach role-play or tiny sand castles, this one is more of a 'make-anything' kit. The set-up is very easy. Most kids ages 6+ will not need any help with the kit. They can set it up themselves. There are several little bags and packets inside, so that's the real mess to clean up. The 'sand' itself is relatively clean. It sticks together well. The 'sand' is in three small packets that are a handful each in the hand of a 6 year-old. Yellow, teal and pink colorant is included along with 3 very small packets of glitter. I like that the glitter is an option. In our house, we do not allow glitter, so the fact that this can be removed was very nice for us. The colors are vibrant and pretty, but they enjoyed the sand before deciding to mix. Younger kids may be confused as they see a ball of purple sand on the package, so we had a quick color-wheel lesson to make the purple sand.Overall, this was a pleasant product. This would make a nice gift, the box would be very easy to wrap in paper. It's not very messy and makes for an exciting table-top activity. No stains, no need to change clothes, minimal clean-up. The only thing that I wish was an option was a little more volume of sand. However, we have located some re-fill packs. It would be a nice add-on if being gifted. My two youngest girls love everything and anything to do with these sand kits. Some more so than others. This one is actually "cleaner" than some of the other kits they have (meaning the sand isn't a huge mess) so that's a big hit with me. They love the texture and the accessories that allow them to play with it. Unlike some of the sand kits we've gotten them this isn't a "play with it once and forget it" kit. This kit has been taken out quite frequently since they got it and I don't mind as much because of the lack of a huge mess that many kits cost. If you're looking for a sand play kit for your children this is one I'd definitely recommend.

The pictures on the packaging of the amount of sand this comes with are very deceiving. This could be a cool kit but we wont be able to find out because it doesn't come with enough sand to utilize the tools. I clearly misread the description and was shocked to see the smallest amount of sand in the kit when it arrived. Upon inspection of the description I noticed that it says the kit only come with 3 packages of sand that are .3 (point three) ounces each! Added together it barely makes 1 full ounce of sand!It looks like there could be some fun tools in here but there literally isn't enough sand to run them through the tools. My 5 year old was so disappointed with this birthday gift. Now she'll have to wait until we buy more sand in order to try to play with it. I'm not sure there will even be a point because some of the tools are for mixing and coloring the sand and I'm not planning to buy plain sand and color mixers, I'm not even sure where to find that.Bottom line, don't waste your money.

The sand is the only part of this that is worth keeping. The rest of the plastic pieces are not very durable or sturdy. I had difficulty putting it together and can't imagine kids being able to use this on their own. The dies that go in are hard to place in the grooves. The top part is hard to snap into the bottom. All in all not worth the trouble. The sand didn't seem to do much either, but I attribute that to the very high humidity here right now. They say for best results temperature and humidity should be below 75 and 70%. Not likely in SWVA in the summer.

Let us start with dislikes, I don't care for glitter. This is easily avoided, you don't have to use it. Next is the storage container. The lid doesn't seal down real good and the side has to line up perfectly with the little protrusions for it to snap on. I found that, at times, very irritating. Other than that, I have nothing but good things. The directions are clear and easy to follow. There is very little assembly, wich is also very easy. In addition to the play set you get 3 white sand, 3 colors, and 3 glitters. It is really a good amount of magic sand. My daughter really enjoyed seeing the sand change color as she worked in the color. The round cutting dies can be used with and without the device. The pink plastic mat also has impressions so you can press the sand on it and keep the pattern in the sand. My 6 yr old played with this for 2 hours until it was time for dinner, you can see in the photo how she put it all away. The magic sand is kind of fluffy and soft but still sand. It is a really unique and pleasing texture. I feel this would really be great for any kid. This is not only great for asmr and sensory work but fosters creativity while doing so.
