The Astronomer is one of my favorite paintings by my favorite artist, Vermeer, and my son surprised me with this print for my birthday. It is truly beautiful and does the original painting justice. It looks especially lovely when the sun comes through the window and hits it just right. It's like the whole painting comes alive. The print itself is done on sturdy, thick canvas and stapled around a solid wooden frame. Overall, I am very impressed by the quality. This will last me a lifetime.

I was satisfied with this canvas wall piece. I hung it up in my study. But I think potential buyers should be aware of the mistake I made, although it is a slight one. When I was choosing which Vermeer painting to get a canvas of, I looked through an art book. I decided on this one, The Astronomer. Using the print in the book as my guide, I was disappointed when I opened the package because it is severely cropped. When I went back to look at my order, the picture was of the cropped version they sent me. So it's my mistake that I didn't notice that. But the original has a beautiful window the light is coming from, the chair that the man is sitting on: the composition is much fuller. Anyhow I am a little disappointed that the very light parts of the canvas are washed out, but overall definitely a four out of five.

Simply beautiful piece...

Gave this as a gift to my son. It is mounted stretched on a wood frame, so don’t plan to frame this piece unless you are prepared to have it removed and remounted. He really liked it. I gave him another work by Vermeer last year that was framed and had glass over it. I liked the look of it better, but it was smaller than this piece.

I bought the picture for my office to give the place a little sophistication. I wasn't expecting much because of the low price. Turns out it looks great! Very satisfied.
