Soho Lounge Heat Vol 1 - Various Artists
Library music was released exclusively to the media industry for use in TV documentaries, dramas and films. For Volume 1 in the Soho Lounge Heat series, Dickie Kleichenblaize has assembled 25 cues from the Boosey & Hawkes label. 20 of them were composed by Dennis Farnon (Robert, his brother composed for The Prisoner) who is best known for providing the background music for the Mr. Magoo cartoons. The other composers are John Cacvas (Kojak, Hawaii 5-0 and Airport 1975), Pete Moore, Sam Fonteyn and John Scott (Greystoke - he also played saxaphone on The Goldfinger soundtrack).Unlike Volume 2, Volume 1 features quite a swerve in styles: 'Trackers' is taught and feintly menacing - redolent of a main theme for a Hollywood action movie from the 70s starring Lee Marvin ; 'The Sandpiper' sounds like early 60s strip music, 'Southbound' dives in and out (I kid you not) of The Doors' 'Riders On The Storm'; 'One Way Trip' would have been a moddish dancer if it weren't enlivened with some fruity jazz flute: 'The Baltic Caper', as expected, has spy theme written all over it; 'Soul Type Blues' swaggers like old school Elmer Bernstein and 'Savannah Flyer' closes out the comp in a display of big band jazz. There's also a plethora of cop styled themes including 'Border Incident', 'Lady Killers' and 'Pardon'.The sound is pristine.Highly recommended!

Tolle Scheibe
