An Excelent Introduction to 2010
I usually get one of these mega-books on each upgrade of software, and this was a very good choice. It does what it says it is going to do, and I am using it repeatedly as I explore Office 2010. The information has been correct every time I look, and leads to aspects I didn't know I wanted to know about until informed in this manual. Sort of like Windows 7, that anticipates problems and solutions without your having to ask.The only complaints I have are the lack of color, which has turned out to be a very minimal lose, and the lack of depth in some not so unusual areas, like style in Word, which has a very complex set of functions. It is covered, but I left it hungry.I will most likely get a dedicated book on Word, or just keep following up with searches on the MS Office 2010 Site. The video tutorials there are, by the way, quite good introductions to various parts of every Office program.bmkmd

Office 2010 the missing manual
Super price for what you get! This book is well written and covers the BASICS of using this Microsoft (M/S) product. But there is so much to know about the Office Suite products that this book, even at 900+ pages, cannot possibly cover the detailed information that I would like to have. I dislike having to go online for help information from M/S and become lost in the process. I cannot understand why M/S cannot include the equivalent of an electronic manual with their products. Most laptop PCs have memory & hard-drives in the megabytes and memory-sticks (& cards) in the gigabytes. So if your looking for information on how to use this M/S Office product you'll have to keep looking. Please let me know if you do. For the neophyte user of M/S Office this book definitely gets you off the ground and is well worth the cost.

Vitally Important Manual for Office 2010
I have been buying copies of this for all my friends who are using 2010. The motto of The Missing Manual series is "the book they should have put in the box." How very true! This is dauntingly thick because it covers ALL the programs on 2010, but it is the usual Missing Manual format: just read down the table of contents to see what you want to do ("Save a document," for example), then turn to the 2-3 pages that tell you just how to go about it. Highly recommended!

Great Book but...
This is a great book that covers the Office 2010 basics. As one other review mentioned, it does not get into the more advanced features of the software. The thing that bugged me was Appendix C-E covering Access Queries, Reports & Forms. They were NOT included in the book so you had to search for them on the O'Reilly website. I bought the book because I wanted a hard copy, not to have to download additional content & read it on screen. If you're going to refer to this content in other places in the book, please include it IN the book.

I'll give it two stars, maybe I should consider less.
Missing manual seems to be a bit of a sad joke. What is missing is some obvious information regarding Office 2010. Because these features are offered in MS Word, I'll give two examples -- what are the real keyboard shortcuts and how do you print renumbered pages from a section. When I say "real shortcuts" I mean, yes, keyboard "shortcuts" are offered in passing, but they are convoluted and awkward to use. Take a simple task like centering text (or a paragraph) the manual gives this string of commands ALT, H, AC: Press ALT (display keyboard shortcuts) , then press H (for Home), then then quickly press AC (which does the actual centering. I guess that's what AC means) , but there are easier methods, Ctrl-e: hold the control key down then press "e", these control commands are simpler and possibly better remembered than the ALT method.. Tables summarizing these Control commands are are smeared across the internet, so how come such a table could not have been included in this so-called missing manual. I'll give the author a break and consider it an "editorial" decision. My second gripe is about "breaking a document into sections". Easy to do, but lets say you have a sectioned document and you edit a portion of a section (that does not renumber the pages in that section). Here this "manual" is silent on this. But again one can pursue an internet death march and find the information. Unfortunately, the methods did not work as expected. I have a duplex printer I want pages to print recto-verso on the sheet. What I got was two sheet print out: recto page on one, and verso page on another. I'm still looking (or waiting for the Microsoft fix). These are only two problems I've had with MS Word and Missing Manual solutions. If you are a word processor and don't have need for such subtle refinements, then you're in fairly good shape with this "manual". If you're a writer or format docs for proofing not so much.

It's a great manual
I love the manual as it is easy to 'digest'. I highly recommend the book for new Office 2010 users. The only problem I had was with Amazon over the length of time it took to get here - nearly three weeks. I bought Office 2010, a computer, a new printer, scanner and the manual at the same time. I received everything in just over a week but this manual lingered in the abyss nearly two weeks longer. I was not a happy camper over Amazon's lengthy shipping and handling time.

OK for a beginner
This is a good book don't get me wrong, and it does help if you're up to speed on windows Office XP & 2005 as there are several differences in 2010 and this book gives you the "new places" to find the shortcuts and other stuff. However for the more advanced user of Office it just tells you what you already know using the new layouts. For beginners it's a breeze to use and very helpful

Office 2010: The Missing Manual (Missing Manuals)
very good for what it covers, and in the absence of a product manual, but I found some more advanced topics missing, e.g. Outlook 2010 macros / visual basic, and message editing screen defaults (both of which to some extent are shortcomings in the program itself).

Excellent detail. This book helped me to quickly transition ...
Although bought for kindle I find this easier to read on my laptop. Excellent detail. This book helped me to quickly transition from 2003. On the strength of this experience I have since bought the Missing Manual for Windows 8.1.

comprehensive and readable
The missing manuals series I have found consistently informative and readable - as they say, it's what should be in the box, but isn't. I strongly recommend this book on office
