Another hit
I’ve loved this series from the start. This one doesn’t have quite the magic of the earlier ones, but it is a great story. The series avoids the overused tropes in recent cozies and brings new ideas to the readers. Definitely worth reading.

Excellent, as are ALL the Book Retreat mystery books!!!
Ellery Adams is a 'Master Word, Plot, and Character Crafter'! Out of the 'zillions' of books/series I've read (okay, okay...'slight' exaggeration there...but not by much as I am 65 and began avidly reading almost as soon as I could hold a book securely on my lap) Ellery Adam's "A Book Retreat Mystery" series is one of my favorites. There are only 5 series of all those read so far - or, at least, 'started' if I didn't finish them - that get my biggest praise. That compliment comes in declaring I would love to continue reading new stories from the series until the day I'm called Home. This series is one I gladly say this about. Fortunately for me, Ms Adams is a good bit younger than I, so hopefully that will be many years AND additional Book Retreat/Storyton Hall books from now!May this author continue to be blessed in her gift for the cozy, 'clean', delightful mystery!Note: I didn't list the other four series here 🤐 as I didn't think it right 🤔, nor did I wish to take anything away from Ellery Adams' work.😘(Sorry 😇...) I do hope you enjoy this series however!

Well done!
Jane Steward has agreed to allow a cooking competition at Storyton Hall where six chefs will compete to win a prize that will change their lives. Jane is hoping that everything will go smoothly but a couple of acts and vandalism and then the murder of one of the chefs quickly dashes her hopes. The police investigate the murder but Jane and her loyal staff also investigate hoping to stop the killer from striking again.“Murder in the Cookbook Nook” is the wonderfully done seventh book in Ellery Adams’ Book Retreat cozy mystery series. I love everything about this series starting with Storyton Hall (a retreat for book lovers – how I wish it existed in real life!) and Jane, her staff (who are like family to her), her aunt and uncle, her two children (Hem and Fitz who are growing up during the course of the series), her boyfriend Edwin, and her many friends. Fans of Adams other series will be delighted by the appearance of a beloved character from one of those series – here’s hoping she pops up again in future books in this series. The storyline with the cooking competition is a good one – both the competition itself and the murder mystery. The mystery is very well done – with some nice twists and turns and it kept me guessing until the end – even when you think the mystery is solved Adams still has a few tricks up her sleeve – so very well done. As for the very end of the book – I had a big smile on my face as I read it!

Book Seven Read
I continue to derive pleasure from this series. I enjoyed the inclusion of Captain Haviland, Olivia Limoges, and Chef Michel into the Book Retreat story arc.

I enjoy this series and loved visiting Storyton Hall again
Ellery Adams creates characters that you think of as friends and it is always enjoyable to visit with them. Jane and Edwin and the Cover Girls are a delight. The Fins, Uncle Aloysius and Aunt Octavia add a bit of mystery. Storyton Hall is a magical place that you could almost believe exists somewhere and the village sounds lovely. It is a place of peace, and when the peace is disrupted, they all work together to restore it. I absolutely loved having Olivia Limoges’ and Captain Haviland’s cameo in this story - I miss their beautifully written series. This book dealt with a heavy topic - more than one actually - but by the end I was smiling.

Ok mystery
I hated the way the author used this book to preach to her readers about certain social injustice. I read to escape the real world. Totally ruined it for me.

Great read
Thank you, Ellery Adams. Your books are great reads. I love your characters and the story lines in your Southern Culinary Cozy Mysteries. They feel real. I also feel like you treat your readers with respect in that you don't constantly remind us who the characters are related to, in case we haven't figured it out by mid book.

Enjoyable Read
Running a five star resort is a huge, full-time, responsibility but one owner Jane Steward embraces wholeheartedly. Only her twin boys, partner Edwin, and immediate family are more important to her. Although Storyton Hall is already popular, extending its charm to potential new clients is always a top priority to all who love it. So, when Jane is offered the chance to host the forthcoming series of extremely popular cookery competition Posh Palate with Mia Mallett she grabs it with both hands. As the opening challenge draws ever nearer a fire near the main tent has everyone involved hoping it isn't a bad omen but things are about to get so much worse! With the local sheriff and her trusted friends, the Fins and the Cover Girls, Jane begins an investigation while still trying to keep everything else as normal as possible. As tensions increase for everyone, Jane finds herself far more involved in the finale than she could ever have imagined. This is an engagingly, original, cosy mystery which was a pleasure to experience. Although this is the seventh book in the Book Retreat series it is the first I have read. This wasn't a hindrance in any way and I look forward to reading more about Jane Steward in her previous outings. The protagonists were a great group and there were more suspects than I expected which provided entertaining red herrings at every turn.I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a slightly different take on the cosy crime genre and well worth a read.
