Family are those people who love you, related or not!
I absolutely LOVED this book!! I usually enjoy a Jill Shalvis book, but this one was above and beyond, in my opinion. It begins when Levi, who grew up in the area, and Jane, a traveling nurse, (our hero and heroine) are stranded in a gondolla above the moountain during a storm. The gondolla ahead of them plummets to the ground, and the entire thing is shut down. Thinking they are probably going to die, Levi decides they should call their families to say goodbye. Jane swears she has no one, and prods Levi to make his call. Levi calls his mom to say goodbye, but just can't bring himself to do it. Instead, he tells her that he has met a new woman and that's whose voice Mom just heard.Of course, they survive (wouldn't be much of a book, otherwise), and when they get back to town, Levi's family is all about meeting this woman. In yet another attempt to make his mom happy, Levi gets Jane to agree to be his pretend girlfriend and attend his parents 4oth wedding anniversary dinner in a few weeks. Oh and they should spend some time getting to know one another, so it looks real to the family. As they do, their attraction grows and both find themselves questioning how pretend this really is.There is also lots of substory involved here, as Jane has good reason to trust no one, but has settled in with a friend she is coming to view as a sister. Charlotte has her own issues, and when she begins to fall for her next door neighbor, Matteo, theirs is also a great story. Watching these two scarred women discover that they are indeed worthy of love is a treat, as is the entire story. Oh, and my favorite part? The 40th anniversary dinner, which had me laughing out loud!

Jane and Levi were so cute together!
Jane kept herself closed off from everyone until she gets stuck in a gondola with Levi. When Levi calls his mom, Jane realizes how serious their situation is. Jane has been coming back to Lake Tahoe to check on her grandpa during ski season and becomes good friends with her landlord, Charlotte. Jane and Charlotte are a lot alike. They both keep Levi and Mateo at arm's length. The two guys realize that Jane and Charlotte mean a lot to them and are patient with them. Jane and Charlotte are trying to move ahead and put their pasts behind them. This was such a good book! It was like two stories in one and it was hard to put this book down! Loving this new series!

love Levi
Jane is a runner. Life has taught her that relationships are temporary, so she leaves before she can get attached. But without her notice, she lets a couple of people in…feeds a stray…collects a fake boyfriend…reunites with her past. The question is, can she trust them to stay long enough so to feel safe enough to put down roots?

Sticking together
Families can be hard to take. Families can also be snatched away. In the case of two in this novel, separate experiences gave both hurt in that neither felt that they either did not belong or fearful that they would be shoved away. Therefore, as you read THE FAMILY YOU MAKE, possibly you would understand and even open your heart for these two lonely people.

A heart stopping, dramatic and heart-warming read.
A real treat with this book. Two interwoven stories complimenting each other. On one hand we have Jane and Levi. They bonded over a near death experience. When Levi phoned home to say goodbye he couldn’t deliver the bad news so blurted out Jane was his girlfriend instead. Now his family want to meet her. How do you solve this next dilemma? Convince her to be his pretend girlfriend. Jane has never put down roots, her upbringing makes it difficult to trust and let anyone in her inner circle. There’s something about Levi that makes her feel safe and gives her the courage to face up to life. Having always been a loner, Jane finally begins to accept she has people in her life. The more time she spends with Levi the more the lines between pretend and real become blurred. Is it enough to convince her that its time to stop running? The other story is Charlotte and Mateo. Whilst her past has defined her, she has bonded with Jane and has come to regard her as family. Although Mateo and Charlotte both have a crazy attraction for each other, it will take a great deal of courage for her to open up to Mateo and trust him with her heart. What’s not to love about this story. Right from the start it was dramatic and heart stopping. It’s also heart warming, at times funny, and I get two sensitive, caring, patient, understanding loyal guys to fall in love with. Not only is this a story of relationships, belonging and trust it is a perfect example that blood does not make a family, it’s all about who you pick.

A pleasant time filler
Liked meeting Levi and Jane they met at a scary time in a gondola in the middle of a storm Levi rung his Mum wanting to hear her he lied and told her he was happy and with a girlfriend named Jane who he'd just met. After getting knocked out while saving Jane who looked after him the family want to meet her. Jane agrees though worried to have one meal but his family not being put off met Jane at different times not saying who they were in the end a happy ending came for Jane and Levi and this book brings a smile and is an easy read will reread it again

Love in Lake Tahoe
This was a really good emotional read with a nail biting start and a lovely warm ending. A love story for not just the main characters but their friends and family. What did shine through was Jill's love of Lake Tahoe. If you haven't read her books before you won't be disappointed, she's a great storyteller.

USUAL LOVE STORY WELL WRITTEN
Jill Shavis writes in a way that her stories are an easy read lots of dialogue not too much descriptive details. If you like good stories with intriguing situations that make you think but not too much than you will enjoy this serie. Also be aware that these books include usual predictable but fun love stories where there is always one of the couple that is afraid to commit and it lingers until the end.

Good story, Well written.
This is the first Jill Shalvis book I have read. I will be reading more from her in the future. For some reason, I just couldn’t like the heroine, Jane. There’s funny snarky, then there’s b*tch. Levi came across as a sensitive, sweet guy, (maybe a bit too much)? I don’t particularly like to see the hero get walked all over. I enjoyed the secondary story between Charlotte and Mateo better. Regardless, a good read, kept my attention and definitely sold me on the author.
