War in the Florida swamps...
The Second Seminole War of 1835-42 was intended to bring the Seminole Indians in Florida under Federal control and move them to reservations further west. Federal and state forces had first to master the difficult terrain of the Florida forests and swamps, ground in which the Seminoles were already very much at home. The result was a painful learning curve for Federal troops. This Osprey Combat series book breaks down in detail three combats over the period 1835 to 1838, in which Federal troops learned painful lessons about fighting in Florida. The author provides detailed accounts of the fighting. The text is nicely supported by period illustrations and modern maps and battle diagrams. The closing analysis is very worthwhile. Recommended to students of the period and the place.

A welcome look at an obscure conflict
I was very excited when Osprey announced this addition to their Combat series given that the Seminole War is such an obscure topic, and the title did not disappoint. While short in length, it provides quite a bit of detail on the three engagements it covers, as well as some additional information on the combatants. It is well worth a read.
