Data saver! Got my phone out of lock screen!
I don't normally do reviews, but I felt compelled to give this product a thumbs-up after having spent a good amount of time researching these devices to see what would work best with my Galaxy Note 3, which unfortunately suffered a damaged screen and a completely dead digitizer from a drop. My Note 3 was stuck on the lock screen, so I was hoping for this device to be the solution to get out of and disable the phone's lock screen so that I could access and transfer my data. This adapter worked for me, thus it was the first and only product I had to try in order to get my mobile hooked up to an external display while also being able to control it with a wired keyboard and mouse. Everything was up and running in less than 5 minutes. Following the advice of previous a reviewer, I connected each cable one at a time in the following order:1) Connect the adapter itself to the phone.2) Connect the mouse USB cable to the adapter (mouse and keyboard in my case).3) Connect the HDMI cable to the adapter.4) Connect the opposite end of the HDMI cable to external display.5) Power on external display.Everything worked fine, however as the other reviewer also stated, the unit is finicky. Even with the slightest movement of the phone and/or the adapter, the external display loses HDMI handshake. This seems to be related to the micro-usb connection to the phone as there is "wiggle" room. However, this could be a condition with how the adapter attaches to the Note 3 and not necessarily a fault of the adapter itself, thus YMMV. The slightest "wiggle" at the connection point will unseat the connection to the Note 3, in which case phone vibration from a text or a call was enough to lose HDMI handshake in my case. I think a cable connection would have been better as the varying thicknesses of mobile devices would affect how both the adapter and connected device rest on a surface. Regardless, I will give the unit 5 stars for the simple fact that it served its purpose to get my phone out of the lock screen so that I can access and transfer my data off the phone. As for how I was able to connect a keyboard and mouse simultaneously, I used this adapter with a USB KVM that emulates a standard USB keyboard and mouse. Both keyboard and mouse worked without a hitch. I was able to easily navigate the phone and respond to texts that accumulated while I was waiting for this adapter to arrive.A few other notes:- I tried to run the HDMI cable to my Yamaha AVR. It would not work with processing enabled or pass-through on the Yamaha.- I have only been able to get the adapter working via direct HDMI connection to a Samsung monitor (via hdmi-DVI adapter), a Samsung plasma TV, and a Toshiba LCD TV (all models were within the last 3 years).

USB OTG doesn't work Galaxy Note 2 (while using HDMI)
***** Updated Review 2/7/2014 *****I realized after posting the review below that the images in the tiny manual that came with this implied that the HDMI out and the USB OTG couldn't be used at the same time. But perhaps they COULD be used separately. I am trying to upload the images - but probably since I have returned it, Amazon won't let me. So I'll just describe the *usage modes* here : Fig 1) Connect micro-USB to power; insert TF/SD(HC Card)s OR Fig 2) Connect micro-USB to power; connect USB flash dongle to the full-size USB port OR Fig 3) Connect micro-USB to power; connect USB mouse dongle to the full-size USB port OR Fig 4) Connect micro-USB to power; connect USB keybaord dongle to the full-size USB port OR Fig 5) Connect micro-USB to power; connect HDMI out to external TV/MonitorBumping up the rating 1*, but the fact that the multiple functions couldn't be used at the same time should have been mentioned in the description - and it wasn't. This is misleading (hopefully not deliberate) and had I known beforehand, I would not have made the purchase.***** Original Review before I returned the product *****I wanted to order 1, but somehow got 2 - on both the OTG doesn't work when tested with a stock Galaxy Note 2 (stock, so not rooted). I tried with a couple of power sources putting our 1A and 2A (5V) and same result. Also, the supplied micro-USB->USB cable was bad one of the two packages - as in no data/no power - independently tested. On both the HDMI works, but is finicky - works with only some HDTVs/Monitors. and I have not been able to get it to do 1080p without completely distorting the output (turning overscan on /off doesn't help). However, its stable at 1280x800 or 1366x786.I also have a USB OTG dock from the same company VicTsing - on that the HDMI works on some monitors like this one and one of the 2 USB ports work as OTG. SO that doesn't work as advertised as well, but at least its better than these two. Will definitely return these.

Works... kinda.
Very finicky trying to get this thing to work. Initially it would either power the (cheap OEM HP) mouse OR display via HDMI, but not both. I eventually got it to work, and was able to save my visual VM from a GS4 with a broken screen. The steps of how I got it to work:- Plug adapter into phone- Plug mouse into adapter- Plug power into adapter- Reboot phone (may need to remove/replace battery)- Wait for ~3 minutes for phone to fully boot and settle- Check if mouse LED is lit, if not start from step 1- If mouse is lit, plug in HDMI cable- Wait another minute or so for drivers and other stuff to load (depends on ROM)- Start using device and adapterTook about 45 minutes to get it up and running via trial and error, but it worked. Didn't even try to see if the SD card slot worked, and a little apprehensive to even bother.

Works great and helped me get the data from my broken phone
My Samsung S4 broke to the point that the screen did not work at all. I had a PIN set up on it so that I needed to put in the PIN before it would even be recognized on my computer. I got this HDMI connection kit, plugged in my mouse and HDMI and was able to go into my phone by watching it on my TV. I ended up both backing it up on my computer and also transferring all of my data via a Samsung transition app. It worked very well and got me out of a difficult spot. Plus, if I have something awesome on my phone, I can just plug it in to the USB and play it from there. One thing I did notice was that sometimes the mouse wouldn't be recognized. I think I had to put my mouse in first and then put the HDMI cable in. Hope this help.

Handy device to have with all the stuff we keep on cell phones!
I was very skeptical this would work and it did!. Screen was broken and I was able to follow the exact instructions to see the cell home screen on my computer screen, transfer all my data on my broken cell to my new cell and erase my old cell with no issues. Certainly worth the investment! Thanks for sharing.
