Best cordless I've ever used
This item was purchased to round-out a previous set that I had purchased about 18 months before. I used it to replace an old AT&T Slimline wall phone. I can't recall the previous brand of cordless phones that we owned, but I really disliked them. They were ergonomically ill suited for my use, had patchy reception with crackly sound. Also, the battery life was poor if my wife forgot to put it back on the charger. We had a couple of Panasonic cordless phones in the past and had good luck with them. We were looking for a wall mount main base model and the Panasonic DECT 6 series had very good reviews. We purchased it and have been very happy with it. The only problem was that I needed a third hand set, as I was frequently taking one of the downstairs phones up to my computer room. Now I have a dedicated DECT 6 handset in my computer/TV room.Pros: The telephone arrived promptly and was very well packed by the seller. The directions were clear, particularly since it was an add-on and not an unfamiliar product. The battery already had a charge, and was ready to use right out of the box. It was very easy to program, a push of a button on the base and a push of a button on the handset linked them without any hassle. I had previously purchased the Panasonic headset for hands free use. I have a peripheral neuropathy and cannot hold the phone for very long, and the headset works very well. I don't use all of the functions on the handset, so I can't speak to the phonebook option.Cons: The only con that I can think of is not related to the handset, but rather the answering system in the primary base. When deleting a message, the system does not allow for individual editing of messages. If you delete one... you delete them all.Otherwise, I wholeheartedly recommend this phone system for anyone looking for an expandable high quality system.

Get 'em! The best, good value!!
I purchased additional phones to bring me up to the six phone limit. This is my initial critique on the first (set of) four:.These phones, as the other users have reported, have some foo-foo features like multiple ring tone selections (think cell phone)and a plethora of menu-driven options; that said, however: I am very favorably impressed with their performance as PHONES. They are perfectly clear, having no competition on their 1.9GHz "cordless phone exclusive" frequency. The range isn't as good as my old Tropez DSS phone which died years ago, but these work on 250MW which seems to be the norm these days. Forget the DSS cordless phones that worked a couple of blocks away, they're history. Europe and Australia allow more RF output, but seems as if the good 'ol USA has more stringent FCC RF limits..These phones also have the advantage of requiring 2 AAA Mi-MH instead of a dedicated battery pack. Makes it much easier to: [1]Replace batteries, [2] Have 'spares' aavailable if they go dead..The line-of-sight range seems to be about 200 feet. Put walls and/or (particularly) aluminum siding in the way and it's down to much less. I have no problems within my 4 level 1400sq. ft. shack, however. These are the best cordless phones yet, aside from my 8 year old Tropez, which died several years ago. 2.4GhZ? Forget it! Screws up all wireless connections, P.C., headphones, etc. 5.8 GhZ? Work fine. DECT 6.0 1.9GHz? The way to go!.UPDATE: As of 2-7-13 am now down to 4 working Panasonic phones.Performance of ALL declined as time went on. I guess 6 years is about as much as one can expect on this type of product. Actually, these have lasted longer than several other makes of cordless phones in the past. Am now campaigning 5 VTech 6.0(1.9 GHZ) DECT phones in tandem to these on another line. Two observations: [1]The V tech are much better (granted, 6 years newer) [2]No interaction or interference between the two sets of phones on the same frequency. I was told this wasn't possible by V Tech (two sets on the same frequency), but the two different brands of phones aren't aware of each other.

Expandable, easy to use, works forever
I bought the Panasonic base station and an extra handset many years ago and it has worked great. I like the user interface and the reliability. Good sound and range. I especially liked the use of standard size (AAA) rechargeable batteries. If they ever wear out (the original set is still going strong), I won't have to buy some custom battery to replace them, but can get a set off the shelf. So, years later, when I want to get another handset, imagine my surprise that the model is still available at a reasonable price. Plugged it in, charged it up, and it came up just fine, finding the base station in a few seconds. Just love it when technology works -- no weird or complicated installation or configuration setup, you just plug it in.Oh yeah -- the original set has worked fine for years, with no problems.
