Accurate and reliable for the price...
This is a very precise scale. Maybe overkill for my needs, but I was concerned about accuracy complaints in reviews of cheaper products, so I bought this one.It seems to give consistent results within a fraction of a percent even when I place the objects in very different positions on the platform, which is a big pitfall for most scales like this.Several things you should know:You have to insert the platform into the scale mechanism yourself. Easy to do(just push the peg into the hole), but it's not in the documentation. The feet of the unit are adjustable, and you should screw the appropriate one(s) in or out to make the platform stable. There is no mention of the adjustable feet in the documentation. This is a very sensitive instrument. You need to have it on a stable place and allow it to come to thermal equilibrium. It was cold outside when I received it from UPS, and I set it up and played with it immediately. The weights and tare value kept drifting downward. About a half hour later, I played with it again, and the drifting had stopped. You should calibrate often: whenever you move it or whenever the temperature changes much or whenever it's been a while since you used it.Whenever you use it, you should turn it on and leave it on for a minute to let it come to thermal and electrical equilibrium.Downsides:It's lighter than I'd like. This isn't a pocket scale, so it would be nice if they put a lead weight or something inside the housing, to make it seem stabler. The calibration and settings involve pushing multiple unrelated buttons to get to the different modes. It would be nice if there was just a "calibration" button and a "auto-off timing" button.-------Once it's up and running, it's a nice, accurate little scale. You can lightly tap the table a few feet away with your fingertip and watch the reading float up then return to zero. The slightest breath in the direction of the platform does the same.I like the way the backlight automatically comes on whenever the reading changes, then goes off when it becomes stable. I like that it came with batteries(you just need to remove the little plastic spacer that prevents electrical contact during shipping). I like that it came with its own 20g calibration weight. I even like the little box(except for the sticker goo that marred the top).I still haven't put it through all of it's paces, but in terms of basic functionality and accuracy, I can say that this scale is very good for the money.
